Hey guys, I just bought a brand new 03 Disco and had a few questions. Under light throttle, is it normal for the transmission to make a whine or hum while it's upshifting into 2nd gear? Also, when i'm driving down the highway at faster than 70mph, there seems to be the same whine or humming noise coming from the transfer case. Also, if I take my foot off the gas and push the gas again while on the highway, I hear a very faint thunk which I guess would be just slack in the driveshaft or somewhere. Is this all normal? Thanks |

All normal, June. 1. normal for slushboxes, someone can probably explain it 2. t-case whine, less noticeable in the 2003's but still there 3. driveline lash, you'll learn to be smooth with the throttle in a disco. |

well...when i first got my 03 disco, many people told me all the things you are experiencing are normal. however, in my case, the tcase whine has gotten terrible, and the clunk that happens when getting on the gas gets worse each day.....FWIW... |

Thanks guys, all these noises are so different to me after coming from a Freelander. What's wierd, is that whine I hear on the 1-2 upshift only does it during very light throttle. If I give it moderate to heavy throttle, then the 1-2 shift is really quiet, but the 2-3 upshift makes the whine during the shift. What i'm curious about, is this the transmission making the whine, or the transfer case? |
