Last year lots of you guys were looking to get a "saudi grill" for their disco's and I wanted to follow up to find out how they worked out. Mine has been on about a year, I drove the rover through the blizzard of the Mid atlantic, had ice caked all through the grill (and snow), not to mention the friggin heavy rains we've recently had, and I've had no problems whatsover with the grill, wether it be LR quality problems or too much crap coming through the grill. My conclusion on the Suadi grill is that it looks cool, is relatively cheap, and may help highway air flow to cool the radiator.

Any other opinions from those with the grills?

If we could find somebody that sells them that actually HAS some, we could give you feedback. I have been looking for a while, but nobody has them in stock, and doesn't know when they will be able to get any more.

My Saudi Grill has been great, people ask me about it all the time. I'v kind of customized mine. Here in Utah we also get alot of the snow and cold temps, but it has been fine.

I really like mine - more for the cosmetic differences than anything else. It makes the truck somewhat unique. I live in AZ and haven't really noticed a difference in performance or heat per se. The hood is still too damn hot to open on hot days when the engine is at operating temps. I did, however, reduce the potential increased air flow by mounting a couple of the big 10" Lightforce lights right in front of it.

Obviously, I haven't had the opportunity to test it in lots of rain or snow, so I can't comment on that.

The primary reason I went with it in the first place was that it was the cheapest replacement grille available when my original had been cracked. I do like the uniqueness of it though.

Let me give you some info about the Saudi Grill from...well...Saudi itself :-).

My 1998 Gulf Spec Disco has one standard, and it sure is great. I was quoted a sily price from the dealer here, but I can get it for much cheaper (40-60 USD). I do agree that even in the Saudi desert its doing great, and that is with temps up to 53C.

I have seen a couple of military recon Discos with a grill that looks exactly like the Saudi Grill, albiet for a leather sheet that rolls up and ties in with straps...I took out my Digicam when I saw that, when the officer politely held my hand and said "pictures are forbidden"!...anyways, I have been looking for THSI grill since then (March) and have yet to come across one. It "may" be a modified normal Saudi one. I'd like to have the combo of extreme cooling for summer in Lebanon, and extreme warmth/bow wave in winter/river crossing.

Will keep you guys posted on this.

I also customized mine by attaching a land rover badge on the grill. It looks pretty good, if I remember, I'll take a photo of it tonight

i found that my truck ran alot cooler this winter with it on. My commute is like 5-6 miles and usually the truck wouldnt have warmed up at all by then. Also, in heavy snow, the radiator cakes with ice. I put a muff on it for the rest of the winter. Id guess it will help keep things cooler during the summer.
