Had the Disco in for 45k service and inquired on extended warranty, "Sure" they said and handed me a pamphlet and a ballpark fiqure of $3000, YIKES! I know they have some wiggle room on these prices, but I was hoping that it would end up more like maybe $1700-1800, is that gonna happen from the dealer? And its only for 3 additional years.

If you push hard enough, everything is negotiable. Do a search on warranties. You'll find more than you can read. There are many favorites.

The pricing from LR is based on your timing and it changes month to month. I paid 2800 for ours and 4 weeks later the Transmission blew up. All I had to pay was the $100 deductable. Later it paid for a new steering pump to be replaced so its already paid for itself for me and I still have 40K miles of coverage left. If you are going to get it from Land Rover, just make sure you get it before you reach 47,500 miles.

As Jack pointed out, there are other 3rd party warranty providers out there aside from LR.

Chris,

How does Alyssa's posting from this thread affect buying a new extended warranty?

Paul, the major change (for me and many DWebbers)is that I can no longer sell non-original owners extended warranties without bringing the vehicle in the shop and nearly doing a complete certification check. The warranty itself hasn't changed too too much.
From what I have seen, few providers are still carrying LR. The few that do have extremely high prices (one was COST-- NO MARKUP-- $7,875). I still honestly believe the LR assured warranty is the best warranty you can get (if you still qualify). If someone gives me a full presentation on another company and convinces me otherwise, I'll be happy to start selling those instead. Until then, I'm standing behind LR.

I know mine has paid for itself atleast once over. And it's getting ready to pay for itself again. My transmission has been acting strange the last month or so. Even the dealer is keeping an eye on it. They know it's acting up. I think, though, that they are hoping that my warranty expires before it goes out. I'm at 83k now.

Are any warranties available once you pass the 100K mark? Paying $2700 for 3 year/50K miles is reasonable considering these vehicles are expensive to repair/maintain.

I don't think my vehicle would pass a complete certification check. The lift and oversize tires would disqualify me for an extended warranty, right Alyssa?

I don't know, Paul. Are you the original owner? If so, you don't need a complete check. This new warranty is SO new that I have yet to learn all its ins and outs. There were lots of tricky little nuances in the old system that took a long time to work out. Now that I finally had the old warranty figured out, they change it.
I'll try to read up and understand.

I am not the original owner. I bought the Pig as a CPO with 13K on the clock. The Pig did come with the warranty that goes to 62K. I am 5K out from asking aobut extending it farther, so I will ask more about then.

Thanks,

Paul

Keep in mind that some extendend warranty policies allow for partial refunds if you sell the vehicle before the warranty runs out. Don't expect your dealer to run out and tell you that, but just read the fine print (it could be a function of state laws as well).

Paul, if your car is already certified, and you bought it at the dealer, then you should have no problem at all. Your prices are slightly different because it is considered a "Certified Plus" warranty instead of an "Assured" warranty.

And Justin is right... you can transfer and cancel your warranty, for a small fee. All of that information was in my earlier post ../2/27624.html"#333333">

Paul,

From experience you WILL be screwed if you take the truck in for anything major, as if they send out an inspector, he will decline the claim based on the oversized tires, IF you had a set of stockers to roll in on when you get service you would probably be ok, unless it was drivetrain lift related.

Alyssa,

Are there restrictions on how many miles the vehicles must be below before you can purchase an Ext. Warranty. I am the original owner and have over 100K miles.

You have to still have at least 1 month and 1000 miles left on the original warranty in order to purchase an extended warranty.
You can purchase a driveline assured warranty (but now, your vehicle must be inspected first) if your vehicle is over 7 years old and has between 75k and 100k miles.
I don't know of ANY company that will give you a warranty if you have over 100k.
