Sorry up front if this is a stupid question. I read the trailer wiring article on how to hook up Uhaul wiring. Is there anything else I need to do after this? I've seen other kits at my local Lowes. Will these work also? I guess I'm a little baffled about why, when looking at another Disco that was pre-wired (wiring visable on the bumper), the dealer said "that's $600 in trailer wiring....we won't charge ya". And then I discover after reading the tech article that it appears that mine was also pre-wired, but the wiring wasn't exposed via the bumper but was instead stashed behind the tail light. |

The pre-wiring requires some kind of kit to connect to a trailer, and I think waht LR sells you does not fit the standard spade type of connector that a lot of the small trailers use. I bought a small 5x6 ft trailer, and the guys at the trailer place just attached a plug to the existing trailer wiring using crimp on connectors that pierced tha insulation on the existing wiring without having to strip the existing wiring. |

I just recently installed the UHAUL wiring harness on my D1, or started to at least. Be carefull that the bare wire of the UHAUL harness is exposed, and that it is inserted the correct amount into the plastic clamp. One of mine has to be reclamped with a new plastic clamp because the end of the wire was not far enough in for it to be securely held. Also, I have yet to find a good or easily accessible place to attatch the ground wire. Other than that, it is a simple installation, aside from taking out the rear jump seats which is a pain and requires the correct size star tool and time. |

I didn't take out the jump set, just disconnected the top two Torques screws, and as far as a good ground, if you open the access panel, you will see where the jump seat bolt mounts near the top of the panel. Take out the bolt and attach ground. Works great. Word or warning though on the cheaper wiring harness kits like the Uhaul ones. If for some reason you trailer gets a short and shorts out the harness, you will not be able to take the vehicle out of park if it kills you brake lights. I bought one that uses its own hot wire that way it only gets the signal from the wires going to brake lights and signals and get its hot via seperate wire. |
