I am wanting to make a snorkel that doesn't look like a 5 year old made it. What i need to find is a top piece. I was told New Holland tractors have this for their intake, but I need a part# to find it at the dealers. If you have suggestions or pics it would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy just the heads for the safari snorkel if you really want to make it look good. I almost think its just worth getting the whole safari snorkel though, they really aren't that much money when you consider the quality of their construction and fit. I have yet to see a homemade one that comes close to comparing but of course yours might be the first.

Thanks, but it is actually for a RR Classic, it is just that the response is slow over there on that board, I was hoping to find the top like the Defenders use. I like that top, I was just trying to find it cheaper. Thanks for the quick response.

oh okay, I'm suprised they have never started making them for the RRC. Seems wierd if you ask me.

rrc are much easier to make as a straight pipe will drop right into the top of the fender behind the hood. i saw a home version out of pvc that looked indentical to the mantec.

yeah the mantec design would be easy to copy as long as you get the cut in the body panel done right. Its when guys start trying to copy the safari snorkel and the way it goes against the outside of the fender that things start to get really .

I plan on using pipe from a muffler shop then have it painted. I think it will hold up better and be cheaper. I recall david Gage saying from a New Holland tractor dealer I just can't find a damn parts guy that knows what I am talking about. I was hoping someone had a lead on one.

Aaron,

Yep, it's the old Ford tractor style... there are two different sizes of the neck at the bottom, you want the one closer to 2", not the smaller one.

I don't know the part number, but.... if you wallk up to the parts counter in the shop, ask for the mushroom cap for the air intake... that's what I asked for, and they brought 'em out... were around ~$25 or so, as I recall... didn't buy one yet, seeing as how I need to get the rest of the rover back together first.... :-)

Leslie is the dealer close to you? You could be a swell guy and I could pay you to ship it to me, or you could give me their # and I will call them and have them ship it, as we don't have any tractor dealers close by.

Awhile back someone suggested making a Mantec-style snorkel instead of purchasing one...sounds good.

Would anyone with an installed Mantec snorkel be willing to provide some details - as far as how long of tubing, where on body to cut, how to link under hood, etc- as a DIY Mantec snorkel? This would be very helpful, as the only snorkel I've seen in St. Louis was a Safari one and I'm not so keen on that design.

Anyone?

lol, sorry, I was in a hurry, had an appointment yesterday afternoon.... :-)

I don't know which of those may or may not have one available, or in stock, etc., but, that's a lead.... if none pan out, holler at me and we'll hunt one down for ya....

Oh, FWIW, http://www.coxtractor.com/ is the place in town where I had one in hand.... like I said, tell 'em you need a "mushroom cap" air-intake like what is on a Ford tractor, and you want the one that is a little bigger than a 2" diameter outlet pipe, not the smaller one that's about 1 3/4" or so....

I remember looking these up a while back, they seemed expensive, if I remember correctly.

Good luck!
