my 95' disco is running really rich. I mean REALLY rich. i just put in a new fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter. i get white smoke out the exhaust when i first start. it runs really rough and idles rough. if i pinch fuel line before the fuel pressure regulator, it starts to idle okay and runs fine if i hold it with vice grips.
whats making it run soo rich?

White smoke generally means you're burning water. Black smoke would indicate a rich mixture. Blue smoke is, of course oil (which sometimes looks like white smoke).
I'd give it a compression test to make sure you haven't blown a head gasket before you do anything else.

I had the same problem and it was solved by cleaning the MAF and replacing some vacuum lines.

Don't mean to confuse you or alarm you Gary, it's just that if you're getting a hi volume of white smoke then it sounds like you're burning water (coolant) - something seperate from your fuel problem. Running too rich will give you black smoke-not white smoke. I was suggesting a quick compression check to rule out the possibility of a head gasket problem.
How much white exhaust are you getting?
