I was told the the oil pump is either working or not working? Can it be working but pumping at a reduced pressure because it is worn?

Also, is the fron cover for a D2 interchageable wth that of a 1997-98 D1?

Thanks in advance.

Pal

Oil pumps only wear due to lack of oil changes and dirty oil. I would be checking the relief valve is not stuck. Low oil pressure can also relate to worn cam bearings. I often work on an 82 model Range rover with nearly 500k km on the clock and it hasn't had the motor touched apart from servicing.

Have you done an oil pressure check at the sending unit? Results?

The oil pressure check was in spec... but the problem seems to be intermittent..the oil light comes on at times I can not check pressure... that's why I was wondering if the oil pump could start and stop working.

P.S. I changed the sending unit already to no awail... does the 4.0 litres discos have a pressure relief valve that is servicable... my dealer told me they don't have one????

As far as I no the they are the same as previous models. The relief valve is under the flat hex head cap on the right side of the pump looking from the front.
