This is going back into the MG this weekend. New head, pistons, rings, bearings, rear main seal (no more oil spots in the garage!), clutch, all sand blasted and repainted. I should be back on the road by the 4th!engine

NICE! That's a thing of beauty! I'm sure you'll be pleased once you get it all back together. Let me know the difference in performance. I'm going to try and finish the interior, and brakes this weekend. I still have a nagging cooling problem, I'm going to next replace the water pump.

To increase the cooling on mine I had one of those aux. fans made by Hayden (got it from Moss Motors) installed. Works great. Good luck with the interion project this weekend.

I inquired this afternoon about a waterpump at the local MG shop. The owner suggested test the real temp before I started throwing parts at it again, he let me borrow a optical thermal guage. I drove it around he block, the guage shot up, and when measured with his guage it showed 180 on top of the themostat housing. Crappy Smith's guage reading too high! I will be on the road shortly.

Safety Fast!

Was Smith related to Lucas?

Both look very nice.

A green one just like yours Bryan, was the first 2 seat roadster I ever rode in when I was like 9. I have had a soft spot for them, and pretty much any other roadster ever since.

Thanks both of you, for sharing the pics.

The engine is in, all that remains is some minor electrical work and I'm back on the road. Man, I lost a third of the summer waiting on this.

Tell me about it! I'm so close to being back on the road, yet sooo far... I'm sure you'll be very happy with new power, especially with the nice mods you made. Earlier, I said my car was a work in progress, I guess they all are!

John yours is a split bumper also? Cool they are getting rarer.
If you are having some overheating problems first of all make sure the cooling system is intact and then try something called redline water wetter (pep boys and AZ should have it). It will drop the temp about 10-15deg. It worked great down here in Texas on the B.

'70 was the only year MGB's had the split bumper. Thanks Don, I think it's pretty cool too! They don't make reproductions either. I think I have the heating problem nailed, bad guage, but water wetter is a good idea, I used it in my old RRC. So far, I've replaced the hoses, thermostat and recored the radiator. Since I confirmed the temp with a digital reader, I feel much better about it... I'm very close to getting it back on the road, the only thing I'm having trouble with is finding time to work on it!

I grabbed the last set of OEM splits from Moss a few years ago. Glad I did. My restore starts on mine next year. I think I might go with the new moss super charger for it just for kicks..=-)If you dont mind modifying you center console I have a solution for you that works great. Dump the electric temp guage and go for a direct reading one. It looks pretty stock and mine made it through a few shows without anyone noticing.
Here is a web site that has some great pics of some MGs

BTW John I did not forget about the pics of the Parrish Hardtop hardware. I might be going up to Va here in a few weeks to start getting the MG ready to come back to Texas.

Pics of the Parrish top rear interior linkage would be great, right now it's sitting in the basement. I will need to replace at a mininum the rear seal before I can use it. Nice looking B. Is it a '69? Pillow dash, no headrest. (Yup! I just read your profile!) Maybe a mechaninical guauge, but before I do I might replace the voltage stabilizer and temp sender, both fairly cheap. And see if the old Smith's guage will do it's job. As I recall, does your dad still have your B?

Since you're sharing other British iron, I though some of you might like to see my Mistress - as my wife refers to her.

It's a 1960 Austin Healey 3000 BN7 - that's a two seat roadster - not to be confussed with a convertible. It's a blast to drive.

Carlos, I love those Healey's! They are beautiful cars. Maybe someday I will trade my B up!

John, Yes my father still has it. The restore will be put into fill swing next year (thank god not too much to do). The SO decided to pass on a new Disco next year and use the down payment to restore the MG. Gives me a bit more funds then what I planned on. My B is a 69 but was badged as a early 70. Typical of BL dealers then. Since I know the orginial owner (my father) I know no one messed with the numbers. I will get those pics out to you as soon as I can.
Carlos.. Nice AH!

Carlos-

Nice toy. But right now I would rather have the tractor behind it.

Reed,

While the tractor in the background runs, I can assure you that it pales in comparison to the chick-magnet factor generated by my Mistress or the excitement when the backend breaks loose a little on a twisty mountain road.

As a side note, you may be interested to know that the Austin engines used in the Big Healeys were commonly used as tractor engines for their longevity and durability. The four seat models actually used hyde covered tractor seats bolted to the rear deck to host rear seated passengers.

I was suprized when my local Advanced Auto had a Lucas alternator for $65 for my 70B. I was told they were commonly used on tractors. Too bad it only puts out 35 amps! Makes sense.
