I have 41K on my 2000 D2 and I live in the northeast. I always go under my truck and clean off as much of the mud, salt and sand that I can from off-roading and of course the new england weather. But it still is taking it's toll on my frame. I am getting some surface rust at the rear of my frame and at some of the outriggers. What I want to do is to remove the rust spots, prime and paint those spots, then clean the frame completely. There are cans of spray on undercoating that I wish to use (you can get them at auto parts stores) and spray my frame with so that I never have to worry about it again and I was wondering what you guys think? Is this a bad idea? Also, how come the "Best 4X4XFar" doesn't have it's frame protected like other SUVs and Trucks? Thanks for your opinions!!

pete,
stay away from the auto shop undercoating. check the rovers north site under body protection etc..
they sell a waxoyl product that is very similar to what the factory uses as as undercoating. this is a very good product but it needs to be touched up from time to time especially if you live in a wet salty part of the country. here in utah they still salt the roads and the waxoyl lasts about a year or so. two cans will just about cover 1 truck, they have two types i've used the black undercoating many times. (about $15 each)
hope that helps
marc

Thanks Marc, I will look into that.

Tony, I live in CT. The trails suck because they are all closed down. CT is a very bad place to own a Rover because no one will tell you where they are. You find out about them by word of mouth but that was before Aircraft Road and Lamentation closed. I guess I am lucky though because a Jeep friend of mine works on a huge farm. The farmer has an area of his farm that he doesn't use anymore and lets us off-road in there. There is also an old logging road right next to his acre upon arce land that we use as well.

Oh by the way, there are a lot of hicks that ruin the trails as well and thats the main reason why no one ever told anyone where the trails were in CT. I was working a restuarant once and the West CT Club came by to eat after off-roading and i asked them where they went and never told me. But one guy saw my rover and he told me Aircraft Road. LOL!!!
