Has anyone tried either the spiral max or tornado devices? If so, do they improve your mileage and power at all?

No.

If they worked, they'd come on the vehicle new.

the best aftermarket device to save gas is a hammer. take the hammer and beat your ignition key into a flat, unusable disk so that you can never start your engine again. beyond that, just take solice that your poor fuel economy comes with a great off-road truck.

Put the Geo Metro additive in your garage, garanteed to save you 20-30 mpg ;-)

I've heard that a bus pass helps save on gas too!

You could remove both front and rear drive shafts...that would save a lot of gas.

Unfortunately, your mpg would go to 0 as well

I was actually quite shocked that got almost 18MPG on a recent road trip to Vail and Aspen. I'll have to see if I can repeat that when I go to AZ next week.

Best economy device is a light right foot, anticipation and similar sensible approaches. Adding a vacuum gauge helps too
I did do 18-19 once....just once

A new air filter wouldn't hurt. A clogged filter would giver your MPG some issues.

I've experienced 18 mpg once, most unusual.

Well I was watching TNN last weekend. One of the car shows put a device in the top of the throttle body designed to swirl the air around or somthing. They dynoed it before and after. Net gain was 0 HP and 0 torque. $50 for nothing.

That tornado air and spiralmax crap is nothing but garbage. When Car and Driver tested it many years ago, they LOST power on one of their test vehicles, while gaining 0 on the other ones. Consumer Reports also tested it and gained nothing.

You want to know what works or doesn't in the fuel savers, read the Offical test done by the Federal trade commision.

Jack Rabbit starts are bad for fuel economy! and driveshaft components! Just take it easy, Don't Speed, Use Premium Fuel, and keep those filters and fluids fresh!!... Just my 2cents...

I have been tracking my milage for about three years now. It hasn't changed a whole lot. 11-13 local driving and 14-16 on long highway trips.

A couple of years ago after a druken night of watching these "Info"mercials with a couple of buddies, I wound up with a Tornado fuel saver, and one of those magnet things.

I had the Tornado on the D1 for one year, whith NO difference at all in recorded mileage. Now the day after I took it off, my water pump failed catestrophically, and I have been having overheating problems ever since.
Coinsidince???

Until the overheating problems are fixed (withoiut the Tornado) the magnet thingy will remain untested.

Now whether or not my odometer lies and gives really poor milage readings is a can-of-worms I am not going to open.

Great link, but what the hell is this stuff?

Analube Synthetic Lubricant

Hardly seems like that would be the right page for that product, you think?

I was watching Le Mans Racing this weekend and there was a Tornando Air commercial during one of the breaks. Couldn't believe it; they are actually paying for TV time. But then again, I am sure some folks were picking up the phone to order their miracle gas saver thing.

Unlike Tornado Air, Mail-Order brides work!
