I went to use my cruise control today and it would not allow me to set the speed. The main power switch is on and lit up, but I was unable to set the speed via the buttons on the steering wheel. Any help would be great.

What year?

Check the archives. That said, check the vacuum hoses -- they meet with a plastic "T" connector and the hoses often split and ruin the vacuum pressure that maintains the throttle setting.

I am also having cruise problems. Does anyone know where the plug that is on the wiring harness that connects to the Vacuum pump goes. My vacuum pump is hooked up but the plug with two back wires comes out of the same bunch of wires right by the pump is unhooked and I cant find any place where it goes.

Is there a fuse that could blow out, and that would be the reason I can't set the cruise. The main power light is on, it just won't let me set the speed??

If the light isn't on, it's probably a vacuum line.

Pop the hood. Stand by the driver's wheel, and look towards the backside of the dash. Start looking at all of the small-diameter hoses there. One of 'em has become brittle and cracked at the end, then fell off and will be hanging loose probably. If not loose, it'll be split and hinged on one side. Either snip a bit off the end and refit it to the tube that is missing a hose, or wrap some electrical tape around it, or replace the line.

Should be simple enough.

If all of the hoses are intact and in place, then I dunno what to say....

If your vac lines are trimmed and clean ended and all connections are tight (ie. plastic tee, brake switch, vac pump) then listen for a clicking noise in the passenger (right) kick panel when you turn the main CC switch on. This will indicate that the relay is working. If you don't hear a click chances are the relay is bad.

If you do hear a click go to the next stage and do some testing on your vac pump. To make sure it's working properly you will need to "jump" the valves.

Take the vac pump out of the hole behind the left headlight under the bottle jack. Pop off the oval cover on the front of the pump with a screwdriver (be careful not to damage the o-ring that seals the cover in place). You will see 3 wire connections. Take a long 14-16 gauge wire and connect it to the left wire post (looking straight on to the pump) and connect the other end to the ground near the front of the air filter casing on the inside fender. Take another wire and connect it to the positive 12V battery terminal. Be sure not to touch the other end of the wire to anything as it is now hot. Touch the hot end of the wire to the right wire post on the pump and watch the valves work. If the valves don't work replace your vac pump.

If the valves do work chances are the CC ECU is bad and if that's the case forget about it. They run $300+. It really depends on how valuable your cruise is to you. And replacing these things won't guarantee the CC will work.

I hope some of this info works and I hope your problem is just the vac lines as it isn't in my case. I've done all of this diagnosis and found that my ECU needs replaced. Not gonna happen...

Corey, I've been thru the vacuum hoses and my cruise will work about 10 mins at the time but only on level terrain. If I climb a hill the throttle will be increased slowly to full and once cresting the hill it won't release! Also the master switch will not kill the cruise. Only a brake tap will do the trick.

Got a diagnosis for me?

Sounds like some deeper problems than what I described above. It sounds like a memory problem with the ECU but that is just a guess. Wish I could help more but I haven't even gotton mine to work yet. :-(
