we have a huge amount of backlash in the front driveshaft. it only does it in regular 4H as soon as i go to diff lock or even regular 4L it no longer is present...i am worried that it is going to be causing a bit of damage to my diff or transfer. is there a way to adjust it. it fairly bangs.

Tod they have a lot of play in the front shaft this is normal. Clonks and bangs in the drive train are often the A frame ball joint. Many cars have a stuffed joint at 80k km (40k miles) of on road use.
