I am considering purchasing a 95 Disco. It has 102k, brand new power steering system, and a custom made front bumper similar to the ARB bumper. The only problem I have is that it has 2 lights on in the dash, one for the breaks which is probably a sensor since he just got a new master cylinder, and the other light is the SRS. I assume that the SRS light is because of the new bumper without impact sensors, if thats the case will I be able to insure this vehicle knowing that the airbags are nonfunctional? If I don't tell the insurance company will I be commiting fraud? Also, it has 275/70/r16s with stock springs and shocks, the owner said they rub a little, but being that wide, would they inhibit steering in normal driving conditions? Thanks, Matt |

If I were you I'd take it to the dealer or independent rover mechanic and let them look it over. They can also tell you what the lights are for. My suggestion is that you research this bulletin board because there are many discussions as to what to look for when buying used Discos. Another source of information is http://www.robisonservice.com/servicedep/rover_advice1.asp Does the current owner have all of the service records? Having bought a used 96 Disco I'd highly encourage you to have it checked out. Also, re: your tires, the steering stops may need to be adjusted due to the width. There is a section on this website that gives you info as to modifications necessary for particular tire sizes. Just look under the tech section and down the left side you should see an option for tires & wheels. Just my 2c worth. |

The bumper is not going to set the light off, there are no sensors in the bumper. The SRS work via an inertia sensor not anything that detects actual impact, I don't know where this sensor(s) is/are but they are definitly not in the bumper. |

Thanks for clearing that up. I always thought that there was some sort of sensor in the bumper, but the inertia idea seems more logical. Thanks, Matt |

When I had my ARB put on, the SRS light came on, for some reason. The shop installing the ARB had to send the truck to a dealer to get reset. |

In a '95 if the battery dies, the SRS light may go on. I would absolutely take it to the dealer to dx the lights. Well worth the $$$ for labor. While SRS & ABS lights may be a sensor, it could be something much more expensive. |
