Yesterday, upon cold start in the heat, turned fan speed to 1 and pushed A/C on but it did not blow cold air. A/C button engaged as normal. Not sure if compressor engaged. Drove a block, disengaged the button and reengaged, tried fan speed 2 also, again no cooling. Repeated same the next block, still no cool. Trip necessitated highway driving the next 20 minutes. Upon existing the hwy, tried again and it worked! A/C worked the rest of the day (multiple trips) perfectly. Any suggestion of what the problem maybe or what to check? Is there a relay?

Attempted to rotate the tyres but the 27MM socket was too small for each and everyone of the lugnuts on the 1995 Disco. Weird. The lugnut wrench that came with the truck did not fit either, as I suspected. Tried a 1 1/8 inch socket and it fit. Did not actually remove any lugnut with the 1 1/8 yet. Has anyone ever seen lugnuts on our trucks larger than 27mm? They are not deformed.

Hi:

It was a very hot day then it may take a while for the AC to become cold. It usually requires you to drive it. THis has happened to me.

In regards to the lugnuts I have to use a 28 mm on the lugnuts on my 95. I bought a brand new lugnut when I stripped one with an air ratchet, and of course, the 27 mm fit it perfectly. Over the years, the little metal caps that are over the lugnuts swell, and you're forced to use a larget socket.

I went up to lowes, told the cashier my delima, and they let me take a handful of sockets out there to fit on the disco, and then I just came back in and bought the right one. Good luck.

Thanks Jared, maybe swelling is the lugnuts' problem. I see the previous owner replaced many of the lugnuts given the old lugnuts were left in a box inside the truck. I didn't see any 28mm socket at Pep Boys, so went for the 1 1/8.

Jerry, I drove for 25 minutes with fan on 1 and a/c button pushed in and it never got cold. I really don't think it should take that long to not generate a bit of cool air when the system is running without problem.

Are you sure the fan was running? These vehicles have a history of fan switches going out. Sometimes just on one setting. You'd be lucky if it worked but try moving the switch.

The swelling is usually due to not using the correct size socket in the first place, having the lugwrench slip off or abuse from impact wrenches. Eric Pena and I had a hell of a time with his lugs when we did his rotors and pads.

Some older RRC lugs (I believe pre-89) are solid and fit the disco1 (i.e. there is no fancy chrome cap over the lug nut).
