I am having a problem with my factory Land Rover Adventure Roof rack. One of the bars has actually split from the underside and rusty looking water ends up on the roof below the crack. It must have gotten moisture in the rack and created about a half an inch to an inch crack in the underside of the bar. Has anyone had this problem before or something like it and what did you do or suggest that I do. Thanks for any help.

Interesting post, Brett. My rack's already showing some signs of rust. I'll need to keep an eye on it. Good luck getting yours replaced - I'd think it would be covered by warranty.

i checked your profile brett, but it does not say what you are driving and what year...i bought my lrna rack new when i bought the truck because they told me that if i bought my accessories at the time of the purchase, they would extend the regular warranty to match the factory warranty on the truck. so depending on those conditions, it may be under warranty. it could be worth checking out...

Hey I appreciate the posts. I have a 1997 Discovery XD. So it is the factory LRNA adventure slim-line roof rack that cam on the XD's. The vehicle does have an extended warranty bumper to bumper however it is not a rover warranty. My complaint is that this is not what appears as a normal wear and tear problem. This is a garage kept vehicle with under 60,000 miles that should not have a bar actually splitting. The bar has never even had any weight on it to cause this kind of problem. Its seems more like a manufacturers defect. Although I'm sure it won't be seen this way. It makes me think the insides of the bars have just rusted out and there is more of this to come because whenever it rains I have rusty water spots all over my roof. I have since rapped the bar in electrical tape to try to basically bandage the problem. It is the center bar over the front section that runs from about mid roof to front of the roof line. Any suggestions of what to do. Thanks for the help.

i am betting at 60k miles, land rover will not be much help...if the bar does not seen too structural, could you take a pipe cutter and remove it? maybe use some self expanding foam to seal the ends?

If there is water trapped inside, sealing is probably the worst thing to do. Structurally speaking of course. Better yet to remove it an drill some drain holes on the bottom of the tubes. Have not advice on rust spotting though. If you never use it, then go ahead and seal it up.

As mentioned above you might cut out the offending section, (assuming LRNA is not helpful), then weld in a replacement.

A garage you can drive a Disco with a roofrack into!!! Unheard of...

after much prying, sawing, and "adjusting," i have an 85" opening on *one* side of my garage! and with much prying, sawing, and "adjusting," i have a '01 disco with the 3" ome lift, a full lrna adventure rack and 265/75's that sits at 83.5 inches! so much for my extended warranty on my rack...:-(

The slimline rack makes all the difference in the world. Its mighty close though. Sure is nice to pull out in the morning and the windows don't have dew on them, etc..., that is when there is still a spot for me when I get home.

Glad you were able to do all that sawing and adjusting. I had visions of you just driving intop the garage real fast the first time.

Will LRNA cover it under their rust warranty?

Chris,
Any idea what LRNA's rust warranty is. The only way I might have even the slightest chance of having that work is the fact that it was a standard factory option with the vehicle (XD). Anyone know about the rust warranty.

Does anyone have a link or know of anywhere to look up the specific detail on the rust aspect of the warranty. Maybe I can just find it in the owners manual. Thanks again everyone for your help.

Brett: Don't waste a day you have a 1997. Drive over to the dealer first thing saturday. Most of the MY 1997 calendar year(!) has gone. With the vehicle and Vin in hand they can see when it first hit the road and whether the warranty has expired.
Waste a day and you may waste the warranty

Chop the Adventure Roof rack's off and bang on a set of Rhino Bars.
