I suspect one of the plastic mountings on the inside of your bumper is broken. I had the same problem, and I think the easiest way is to remover the entire bumper, just remove the bulbs and unscrew the bumper. Then you can see if anything is broken. |

A few months ago wheelin I came down really hard on the back bumper and one of the endcaps all but flew off. Now it just kind of hangs there and rattles around. I was going to fix by getting one of those TJM rear bumpers that EE sells. That is for sure the best solution. I was at a body shop on Friday and there was a disco there that had been rearended. There was a big dent in the rear bumper. The guy said it should only cost about $700 to fix. I told him that the owner could get a nice steel bumper for that money. He looked at me confused...LOL I've been waiting for someone to rear end me for a long time in hopes of a free TJM. |

The screws or the plastic mountings for the screws in my bumper end caps pull loose or break off occasionally. I use Cargo's QuickSteel Plastic Repair to fix whatever is broken. It's available at Discount AutoParts (and probably most other auto supplies places). It works just fine. Good luck. Mike B. |

On the older Discos the rear end caps have three screws in them, one on the side of the bumper, and two hooking it up from the back. One of the screws is mounted on the inside of the cap, where the red reflector is, don't take the reflector out you can't reach the screw throught there, that screw is really hard to reach or to tighten without some sort of special tool, but is not truly nessesary. If you have angle phillips screwdrivers this task is very easy. If not is almost impossible to tighten or remove them. What I did is just tighten the two screws that I could reach that fixed my rattling end cap problem. |
