A buddy of mine has a '97 Oldsmobile Bravada that has sludge in the coolant. He says that he has flushed the coolant system but the sludge has come back. He's using GM Dex-Cool anti-freeze. I've never heard of sludge in the coolant system before. Anyone have any ideas as to the cause and what to do about it? |

Sounds like electrolytic (galvanic) corrosion. Does he have an electric short someplace? Also, is he using distilled water?

Greg, I did some checking on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with some GM vehicles. It's related to the coolant system not staying air tight, such as with a bad radiator cap. The coolant turns acidic. Kyle |
