Okay, I've completed the search and came up empty for MP3 connections. Has anyone connected/attached/wired/etc...a portable MP3 player to their LR facory system? I'd like to convert my library to MP3 but I'd rather store them in a portable jukebox type player instead of MP3 cds. I've seen several that can hold bazillions of songs. Thanks

have you considered an FM modulator. I would think that would work. I have an 10 disc CD, MP3, player hooked up to my factory deck through a modulator and it works great. The hook up is behind the glove box and is pretty simple, just place the modulator in line from the antenna.

good luck

I've thought of that route. I can't seem to find any info on MP3 hard drive players being connected via modulator/adaptor. I'm looking for feedback. Does anyone have a MP3 hard drive/non-disk type player connected?

How about this? The Kenwood KCA-R70FM controller will give you Sirius Satelite radio option AND control of a KHD-C710 "Music Keg" (10GB MP3 hard-drive for the car) - you would need both pieces - the controller lets any factory radio do the controlling that the Kenwood head-unit would normally, via FM Modulator.

I'm trying to connect a MP3 hard drive/non-disk player to my FACTORY head unit. No CDs, No head changes, No nothing. Simply connect a player via an adaptor. Anyone do this?

Jack, If you don't mind the low-tech approach, I am running a car PC (self built) with MP3s into my head deck using a Recoton tape adapter. One end plugs into your MP3 Player output or earphone jack and the other end looks like a cassette tape that you put into the tape player. Sound quality is fine and you don't have to dig under the dash to install or remove it.
Give it a try,
Chris

You could try this:

It's a FM transmitter that will plug into the headphone jack of your MP3 player.

I use an Archos MP3 player with a cassette adaptor and it works fine. Sound quality is good.

i have an apple i-pod that i have been trying to "hardwire" a patch into the system too...i have used the fm transmitter like in erik's post (actually, 3 different brands) and i have to say that it is not a great solution. if you get one that only uses 4 or 5 preset frequencies and they are already used in your town, you are sort of screwed. i have one that had a rolling system that lets you browse around with a little dial to find the frequency you have selected, but as "better" as that is, the sound is not the best. i too was hoping to find a way to patch into the system so i can plug in the mini-din output. having that wire dangling out of the cassette player just does not do it for me...if anyone feels so inclined, i will sell one of my spare transmitters...

I use a cassette adaptor for my Nomad Zen MP3 player and it works just fine. Whatever you do, whether it's a transmitter or a hardwire, you're going to have a wire running from your player.

there must be a more elegant solution than an umbilical cord hanging out of the tape deck opening. but with rovers amps and other odd electrical quirks, it is not as easy, i am betting, than just tapping in where ever. i have mounted a remote power source so i dont have power lines running across the shift levers and i would like to also have a remote hardwire connection for the mp3 player. i never ment to imply that the cassette adapters don't work, but with a cell phone, gps, sodas, and who knows what else sitting on and around the dash, i dont need to have anything else adding to the octopus of wires. and the great thing about a mp3 box with any storage at all is that it is fire and forget. it is hard to forget, however when you have to move wires to grab your can of diet coke.

Best Buy sells a wireless FM modulator for about twenty bucks. No wires. No mess. CB way to go, yet simple and elegant at the same time.

I have the Sony IPod. I attatch it through the tape deck like the old portable CD players. The tape attatchement attatches through the headphone jack in the MP3 player.

I've used both an Audiovox powered FM modulator that was "hardwired" into the antenna and a simple cassette adaptor. The Audiovox modulatior sounded weak, and despite careful wiring and no nearby stations, it still had more background noise than I'd like. The casette adaptor is simple and sounds a lot better. Besides, you can plug it into any other car with a casette adaptor.
It's also great for playing the audio from laptop DVDs through the car stereo.

I seem to remember a post about connecting your cell phone to the stereo to use it as a speakerphone (the speaker part, anyway). (Or, it might have been on disco2.com)

If one isn't planning to connect a cellphone, could the same tap be used to connect an mp3 player?

Why don't car stereo mfrs include an Aux input anyway? (It would be handy for CB's etc as well.)

My last car had a 1.5din stereo as well and I was sick and tired of all the crappy solutions to hooking up my Ipod. I took this approach. I purchased a Pioneer with a AUXILARY IN on the back of it and had the guys at the stereo place wire the thing up through my center console. I hit a little switch that put the Pioneer in AUX mode and BAM! Great connection .. no exposed wires.

I just didn't have the heart to rip it out of my old car and have it put in my new Disco. Now.. i'm having second thoughts! =)

What I really want is a 1.5din with satelite ready capability and a AUX IN on it. I'll stick with my cassette adapter for now ;)
