Trail ride on 19 July, 2003 Richland Gap is challenging route that involves driving up a stream. Currently we are not sure about the suitability of stock Land Rover vehicles though in the past when driven carefully there have not been any problems. Though we all are careful, on a route like this there exists the possibility of body damage. We will start from the Tanger Outlet Parking Lot in Blowing Rock off of 321, NC on Saturday morning at about 10:00 a.m. Caution Currently no one planning on driving the trail has done so recently. We will have to make adjustments to the schedule and route as conditions warrant. Heavy rains over the last few months may have left the trail more difficult. As I receive information about trail conditions I will up date this event note. Please feel free to check the message board: http://forums.delphiforums.com/nclandrovers/ for the latest up dates. Please be on time and ready to head to the trail! We expect to finish between 2:00 and 3:00 pm. This should allow the piedmont drivers to make it back home by 7 - 8 ish. Interested in breakfast? If you are, join me at Knight's on Main at 870 Main Street in Blowing Rock Arrive at about 8:45 am. if you want to breakfast together. On-the-trail communications will be by FRS and/or CB. For FRS we will use channel 4, for CB we will use channel 35. Lodging: For lodging information, contact the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce at 828-295-7851 or 1-800-295-7851 or http://www.highcountrylodging..com/ If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call 919.639.3460. Thanks! Dan

I have a large vaction home in Blowing Rock, and it just happens to be available that weekend. So I will be there in a 5 bedroom house, and will make it available to anyone who wants to join us for the trail ride. The whole Blue Ridge area is very nice, and the Richland Trail is nice too, but not really difficult unless you want it to be. Randall 1-919-469-3332 work |

Tam: Shouldn't be a problem at all. If we know you are coming, we can wait for you. My cell is 919.612.3997. If there is coverage out there, you can keep us informed as to your status. Chances are that if you just head up the trail you will bump in to us. Dan |

Here is where I am planning on staying. I am probably only camping Friday night. I have never camped here, but it looks great. Directions: To Mortimer Recreation Area: From Morganton, travel 10.5 miles north on NC 181 to Brown Mountain Beach Road (also referred to as Collettsville Road and SR 1405). Turn right and continue for 5 miles to SR 1328. Turn left and continue 4.5 miles. Cross the Wilson Creek bridge and bear to the right; turn left at the stop sign. The campground is 4.5 miles ahead. My goal is to arrive about 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon. It is about a 25 minute gravel road drive from there to Blowing Rock. Dan

I so enjoyed just bouncing around those gravel roads last week that I am dying for another chance. There are so many choices that I thought that we might do something like this: Pick a weekend in late August, early September Start at the Mortimer Campsite (maybe camp Friday and Saturday night) Set around in the evening with our gazetteers siting possibilities and maybe breaking in to groups of two cars on Saturady to see what we see. Then maybe collect back up in the evening at the campsite to hear the stories. August/September might be too hard to pull off at this time. Any time in the fall would probably be great as well. Am I dreaming of rover heaven agian, or would this seem workable? Dan |
