The original sub in my '91 is in need of replacement. I'm trying to find out if there is anything special about it. The one I have is about 7" in diameter and the part # is RTC7637. I have another sub that's the same size, but it only has connections on one side, whereas the original one has 4 wires with two connections on each opposite side of the sub. You can see how it's wired up in the below photo...

Here is what the other sub I have looks like...
It only has a set of connections on one side. Does that really matter? Could the 4 wires be connected to the one side or would the sub not function correctly? On the bottom of this sub, it reads: Hymnario IMP: 2, NOM: 20W |

2 connection on each side of the woofer means it's a dual voice coil sub. If you figure out how to splice the two positives and two negatives together, you can connect it you your other woofer. There is no accounting for how it will sound however, as speaker enclosure's are somewhat specific to the speakers that will go in them. Why not just ditch the whole thing and get a new sub? Something simply like a Bazooka tube would work. Visit your local car audio shop and see what they think. I'd at least go with a 10" sub back there though. -P |
