I wanna add gauges (volt, oil press, H2O)... has anyone seen A-pillar gauge pods on a Disco?
Or, any "professional" looking dash-mounts?
Any pix?

Thanks - Peace Out, Yo!

Don't do it man! The Disco is not a Duster nor is it a Civic. All the superfluous crap people add on to their cars is akin to putting baseball cards in your bike spokes. Cute when you are 8.

anthony,
why is wanting to know real time vitals of your engine akin to being childish?

will, comming from a mechanic, i wish all vehicles had these gauges installed on them.then perhaps more people would pay more attention to their fluids etc... just a thought. try summit or jc whitney for gauges. i've seen them mounted on the center console where the center diff lock sticker is, just to the front if the cdl lever. looked clean but lots of work.

Will -

If you dont mind losing that POS cupholder then you can mount this panel type from Autometer in the trim flange just above where the cupholder slid in. Its a little above where Marc mentioned but it looks very clean due to the round heater controls. No wires are visible underneath upon completion. I totally agree with Marc - the absence of an Oil Pressure gauge especially is amazing in a vehicle like this. Modifying your rig to give you pertinent engine info is anything but "childish". It IS a lot of work, but a nice end result. Someday I'd like to post it in the Tech section - I took a lot of pics...

Get a multifunction digital engine status disply. They have them for small aircraft, I bet some place makes them for autos too. Then you could mount it just about anywhere and not look like a goof.

I'm all for it. Since my Audi has oil temp and volt gauges, when I drive my Discovery I feel as if some information is always escaping me. I've never fully trusted idiot lights.

Yeah I guess (IMHO R.B.) a digital engine status display would be cheaper and look less "goofy" that gauges that blend right in with the esthetics of the dash
Again, it's your rig and beauty is in the eye of the beholder...another option is to use one of Chris DeJesus's mounting brackets (another plug Chris), which I strongly considered because running the wire would have been easier...

I can't find the URL for it again, and it was a couple of years ago that I last saw it, but there was some company in Australia that made an "auxilliary dash for the Disco, to mount radios, or instruments in. As I recall it wasn't too ugly (depends on taste) and wouldn,t have blocked too much forward visibility.

Maybe some of the d-webbers from Oz can help?

If I find the URL and it is still intact, I will post it.

Not to ramble on, but here's where I relocated the cupholders - $0.99 each at Target, and will hold the SuperSizer's !!!!

FWIW Perrone has some really good write ups on installing additonal gauges at www.spanishtrailrovers.com, I can't remember if he detailed the physical install of the guages themselves though. If I get the time and money I would at least like to add and oil preasure and voltometer sometime.

Todd you should add that to the tech section. That looks sweet.

Thanks Blake - If I can get the OK from the higher-ups I'll post it in the Tech section.

Perrone's on SpanishtrailRover's is good but this will be more Disco specific with more pix.

Is it just me, or are the D1 dash pod pics on that website discolored? That interior looks light blue...

*off to adjust monitor*

Joey- That's the one I remember.

Andrew- The early Discos had a light blue color option. I don't know if it was ever availible in the U.S.

Reed

one link is

www.carconsoles.com.au/Rover_Land99_pods.htm

But I think there's a couple of other companies that do the same thing.

I've never seen the Discovery one, but have seen them on Patrols and Cruisers..theyre after market but well done. They look original aftermarket equipment

Go with the Autometer, they are more expensive but look nicer. Here's what I did.
BTW, I have Dakota digitals on my 91, but no pics yet.

Garth- Thanks for the info, that is the same company that Joey's link goes to.

Even in Oz dollars it's kinda pricey, but might be a nice place to put a couple of toys I have been thinking about that might look good in it.

Rolad - Nice setup.
