Has LRNA imported any 3-door Disco II's?
Just asking for the sake of it.

Maybe they could convince the US Forest Service to go to LR if the price was right. Their fleet of J**p Cher00kee are getting a little age on them and of course, they don't make that model any longer. I guess that this is not a market that LRNA is after though. Would be a good marketing theme especially to those of the "green" mindset.

It would mean more used Disco's on the market in a few years.

(Bet you this is going to get interesting!)

Most likely that will never happen but I was thinking along the same lines just the other day. I see lots of Jeep Cherokees in use by police, security, parks services, lots of gov't agencies and I can't see them switching to the Liberty or the JGC. I've seen a few TN Highway Patrol unmarked Ford Explorers and Expeditions so I'm guessing that is where the gov't will go to update their fleet..?

Out here in NV, the county and US Park Service use Expeditions. And over in AZ some of the local govts use Explorers.

I believe the TN Highway Patrol also used white unmarked suburbans, I saw several of those around Nashville (of course they could have also been MNPDs trucks).

But think about police using Discos for vehicles, you'd be able to out run them fairly easily - especially going up hill...HA! Well maybe the new 4.6 is a little bit better.

Most goverment Agencies in the US will keep on using US cars made here in America. Just like British Agencies try to use British cars, German Agencies use German made cars and so on. I would like to see the Park services use Disco's or Freelanders, that would be wood PR for Land Rover.

There is no 3 door Disco 2, but I have seen comercial 5 door D2's, the back doors have no windows, and solid rears. They were produced for the Irish market where you get about 40% off for commercial vehicles.

Hi Alan
That is not strictly true, the commercials were first created in Ireland, because as you say there is a large tax incentive. The Irish do this on nearly any type of vehicle that can have the rear seats and windows removed.
Now LR were none too happy about this and decided to produce a variant in house, one of the differences being the Irish ones have no alpine windows.
Now jump to the DII and LR promised there would never be a commercial variant as it lowers the tone of the luxury vehicle, and in any case there will not be a 3 door.
So the Irish again doing what they do best, ripped out all the rear seats and panelled all the glass, and to stick one up LR they exported them back to the UK.
So LR had no choice but to make there own one again.
I know all this as I drive a 3 dr D1 commercial, and I tried to buy a DII in 98 and was laughed out of the showroom, ending up with one of the last D1 commercials made.
In all honesty it is a good vehicle but a lousy van, as there is little space behind the bulkhead, and has a lot of protrusions into the load area, this was a hash up by LR to make a bit more money, makes a good tow tug though, and farmers seem to like them. The DII is better as the load area is bigger and the front doors help access.
I have read that some US police forces use Discos.

The Breckenridge, CO police uses the Disco as their cruiser.

Quote from their web page:
In 1998 the Department became the first law enforcement agency in the United States to field the Land Rover Discovery as its police vehicle. The Land Rover Discovery is one of the world's premier vehicles in quality of construction and off-road capabilities.

As far as federal agencies go, it is a law that they have to buy and use Americam made products unless they can clearly define a very specific reason not to. You will never see mass use of non-US vehicles.
