I have a 99 Disco II. The front left door will not open using the exterior handle, but will open using the interior handle. I do not know part names - the "metal-thing" that latches the door closed seems to not be fully releasing when the exterior handle is pulled. Maybe it is loose? Can someone help a girl out??????

You could try some Lithium grease on that "metal thingy" (the latch on the side of the door panel that engages the mounting post) and then work it back and forth or pull the panel and lube in around that area. Also check that that mounting post hasn't moved or loosened.

Thanks Todd! Unfortunately, that didn't work. It feels like something is loose or has come off inside the door for the exterior handle. Can you tell me how to get the interior door panel off???? Should I even attempt that? I live in SE ALabama and there is not a dealership around!

I don't know about a D2, but I had a similar problem on my D1.

Take all of the "Stuff" off the inside of the door (Handle, armrest, etc). There should be screws holding them in.

GENTLY pry the interior door cover off with e screwdriver or 2. The fastners holding it on should just pop apart when you get to them.

Cut the plastic piece from around the access holes in the metal in such a way that they can be taped back together.

There are adjustment screws all over the place in there. Try to figure out which ic causing the problem and adjust it.

Re-install in the opposite order. If you were careful taking them off, you can re-use the fastners. It is ok if some broke off.

I DID IT! Thank you Greg! I tightened some "thing" in the door and it worked! (Of course after several attempts and a few curse words!!!)

That's fine! I'm so glad I have found people to help me! My thermostat went out a few months ago and the place I had to take it to down-here-in-South-Alabama took 2 weeks to get the part in! I finally had one overnighted to me and took it to the repair guys. I vowed then I would learn how to take my Disco apart and put it back together!

That's how it goes with these pigs we drive. Just think...the dealer probably would have charged $500.00 to do it!
It didn't take too many times to the garage to figure out that I had to learn how to fix things myself. Now I actually go out and look for stuff to break on it so I can fix it!
DWeb is the best source of info I have ever found.
