I've already replaced my drivers side window regulator ($89.95) but now my passenger side regulator fell to pieces. There has got to be an easier way (and less costly way) to repair the regulator, rather than just replacing it altogether. The piece that fell out looks like a deer's jaw bone with the teeth and all. It has three rivot marks on it and i am wondering if there is anyway to repair it and put it back in and have it working or is it completely shot? I removed the whole kick panel on the side and removed everything and put a piece of PVC pipe inside the door to keep the window up temporarily. Any help or advice is needed.

Yes please any advise would be great. My 96 passenger side front window just died as well. I read the rear window fixes in the tech section, I hope the nylon washer fix will work for the front as well.

Garrett where did you get the regulator for $90? From Nathan?

Thanks!

can you take apicture so we can see how its fallen apart? Have the wheels broke off? Have the arms gotten bent badly? Are the rivits loose or missing?

If your arms are bent badly get a new one or you may find your regulator breaking again real soon..

Phil,
I do not even know what the name of the part is. It is a curved gear of some kind, probably about 10-12 inches long, about 2-3 inches tall (not including the teeth) and about 1/4 inches wide. It has a hole about 1 inch from the end that it supposedly mounted on, and three rivot indentions on the side. When i push the up button on the windows i can still hear the motor working, but it has no gear teeth to retract or roll up. If you have any idea how to fix it please let me know.
Eric,
I had to buy a regulator at the dealership last year and it was just under $90.00, not sure if the price has went up or not but i can check and make sure if you'd like.

You might check Discount Rovers about the regulator. When I replaced a rear one about a year ago he had a fair price even after taking into account the shipping.

I am not familiar with the fron regulators, but looking at the old back one, if the part with the teeth is loose, it might be cheaper to buy a new one than try to fix it. Usually it is the nylon bearings on the window track that get old an break.

I was having a intermittent problem with my rear windows on my 95 Disco; more often working than not. So I followed the nice instructions on this site; took out the circuit board and saw that the solder in question was in fine shape. When I replaced everything, the rear window stopped working all together. What should I look at next?

Chris-

You may want to take a look at how you reconnected the circuit board. Use contact cleaner on all the connections.

Wait! Wait!!! Before that, check your fuses. If you didn't disconnect the battery they are easy to blow.

Garrett, I just went through this with the driver's window. That "deer jaw" is a gear that is spot-welded to the regulator; my local guys couldn't get a new weld to take, and I ended up putting a new regulator on...unless you have a great welder or some other way to attach that thing to the regulator, I'm afraid you'll have to pony up the $90 for the new part.

:-(

I welded mine, and it works great, i drilled holes in the gear and regulator asmbly. and then plug welded it with a mig welder with high heat. the welder reallt penetrated the metal. 5k later still works great. note make sureyou line up the old welds perfect, or the regulator will bind and not work...

Christopher,
That's what i needed to hear! If it can be done then it sure as hell will be done. Just looking for a cheaper way to do it than paying the bastards at the local dealership for a whole new part.

I have the same problem and Christopher has the right solution. A family friend just did the same for me but...he welded the gear on backwards. It's now back apart for the second fix. Meanwhile a screwdriver and duct tape are holding the window up again.
