I have a 96 disco with 100k and recently it started running realy poor.It would run great cold then slowly run worse as the truck got warm.It would skip and stutter, get pops through the intake, like I was out of gas or no spark.I first changed plugs and wires then the stepper, then 02 sensors, next fuel and water temp sensors, fuel filter, fuel pump and it still ran poorly, changed the mass air sensor, still no luck????....then changed the speed sensor on the trans. I then tried to unplug the tps it still idled rough but drove down the road with no skip or stutter...all that work and it was just the tps, go figure, at least I got a good tune up out of it.....Guys try the tps if your disco is running poorly |

Did you get a Genuine TPS or some other brand? If another brand, a P/N and cost would be helpful. Thanks. joe |

yes tps is throttle position sensor and I second what chris said i went through basically everything he did, except fuel pump and maf...luckily i changed out tps first...truck started running perfectly. TPS is located on the intake manifold pointing towards the front of the motor. It's very easy to spot and get at its held on by two torx screws. I got mine from discount rovers, but make sure you tell nathan which one you have there are two different types on the 96 depending on whether or not yours is an early or a late 96. The early one is about $55 and the late is about $80. One has the wires connected to it....and one has the plug on it for the wire to plug into it. |
