Hello fellas,
I just purchased a 2002 disco with 2500 miles on it from a insurance company with salvage paper work. It was hit in the left front. I am having the rig rebuilt and am wondering if the factory warranty will still cover this vehicle. If anyone knows, let me know. Any info would be great, thanks............Chris

Warranties don't cover damage caused by an accident. It should still cover those items not damaged. I would try to obtain a copy of the warranty, if there is not one in the vehicle already, and read up on the exclusions.

My 98' is a salvage vehicle and I seriously doubt if anything is still covered under warranty and the dealer you go to will know by simply running the Vin#. Look on the bright side, the savings will definitely outweigh the warranty, just make sure there is a warranty from the shop on the repairs.

LRNA will completely honor your warranty, they have NO idea it is a salvage vehicle, that issimply a title/registration designation

Chris, give me the last 8 of your VIN and I will see if there is a warranty hold.
If LR knows about it, which does frequently happen, the warranty is void.
If they don't, you are good to go.

Unless they do a carfax check and under many salvage vehicles, the factory (i.e. Land Rover) will usually be notified through the insurance companies so they can cover their butt concerning warranties.

My disco has a salvage title. The dealer knew it from the vin number. They told me they would not honor the warrenty. Its kind of BS in my opinion.

how is it BS? the truck was thrashed and then put back together by some body shop or rebuilder. why would LR cover that truck?? some half-ass who knows nothing about rovers rebuilds it and LR should have to pay to fix it? give me a break. i dont agree with alot of LRNA actions, but a salvage title truck wont have a factory warranty for good reason. a salvage title also makes the truck worth roughly 50% or less of what the "non-salvage" value would be.. fwiw

Insuring a car with a salvage title is not a problem. As an insurance agent there is no way I would ever even know what kind of title a car has because I never see the title and our vin checks only show the year make and model. I have had insruance on several cars with a salvage title and never a problem. The only time the ins. co sees your title is when you have a complete loss. In some cases if the car is stolen or totaled and you make the claim the ins. company will only pay you a reduced amount. Farmers Insurance subtracts 40% of the vehicle value. Often times you get full value for the car in event of a claim.

Ask your local Land Rover Centre. Usually salvaged vehicles or vehicles with an unusually high dollar amount of damage are noted as Warranty Hold in the system. If this is the case, you cannot use the factory warranty. No warranty company will give warranty with salvaged title.

Like I said, you should be saving tons with your salvage title Rover so forget about the factory warranties, if it is being repaired at an honest shop it should have a warranty on all repairs made.

BTW, it's funny how some cars get totalled and some don't and my personal opionion it comes down to the type of person who has the insurance. If you're joe smoe with their home and cars under one insurance company, your wrecked LR with $5,000-7,000 dollars of damage will have to be repaired, but if you have a large insurance policy like business insurance, home, life and cars under one company and are spending tens of thousands of dollars a year, your LR could only have a couple thousand dollars of damage and be totalled out, if that is what the person with the insurance wishes. Those are the ones to buy with a salvage title. Meanwhile, some of you could be driving used LR's that previously had more damage than some with actual salvage titles and carfax isn't going to help you there.

Just something to think about.

Christopher, there is no warranty hold on your vehicle as of yet. However, the last time it was into a dealer was at 485 miles.

By the way, Ron Johnson, Carfax *will* help you there. They show any accidents reported to the police. It's a new feature, and it really does pull a lot of accidents now that were previously not shown on Carfax.
And I really don't agree about the totalling statement you made. Yes, there is a small degree of movement, but no agent is going to total a 2002 with $5-7000 worth of damage. I don't care how many policies you have with them.
I've even seen insurance companies pay to put a completely new frame under a car rather than totalling it.
I have 2 customers right now that are fighting for their cars to be totalled.
There is something to be said for the gentle art of persuasion, but insurance is a *business.* Persuasion only goes so far.

Ok Alyssa, I only buy salvage vehicles for a living and see literally hundreds of them a week, plus own a body shop and a State Farm preferred shop. Trust me, there are some nice easy buys out there like my wife's car for example. 2003 Passat with the V6, under 6000 miles. Sticker is still in the glove box and sold for 27 grand. Granted I don't charge myself labor but the parts only cost 3 grand...do the math. Don't believe, go look at some salvage vehicles on ebay and subtract easily 2-3 grand for what they sell for and thats what they went for at the auction.
