OK, first it started getting stuck in Park. Then ABS light comes on. Had wife check brake lights while I applied brake. No lights, A-Ha! Easy fix! Repaired brake light switch by taking apart and tightening spring (Sunday afternoon, nobody open to buy switch from). Everything works now, but the damn ABS light is still there gloating at me! I've done a quick check of the sensor connectors that have caused me grief in the past and they're OK. Is this something that the dealer has to reset via the diagnostic computer? I've done a quick check to see if the ABS is actually disabled and it is in fact inoperative. (I know, I should probably leave it that way!) What is the fix for this one? |

My rig did the same thing about 2 years ago. I'm not sure if anyone here on discoweb knows how to fix it. My abs light is still on. However I have not had any problems braking. If anyone has fixed this issue I would also like to know. Thanks, Greg- |

Greg, If you remove the cover over your instrument panel, the ABS light is easily removed by twisting the small holder that keeps it in place. Hope this helps, Daniel

I've had to replace the break switch also last year on 97 a disco. Shortly there after the ABS light stayed on. ABS warning light relay found faulty P/N YWB10032L $30.00 cdn. located behind the glove box, 1" square green relay made by Siemens. Stuart |

A permanent ABS light showing can also be caused by play in the wheel bearings. The ABS sensors pick up from either the rear wheel hubs or the front half-shafts, if the bearings aren't running true, the sensors can't find any info to read. This tip was actually given to me by a friend who's a Service Manager at a UK LR dealership after i'd had ABS light problems of my own. He suggested I try the wheel bearing trick ahead of investigating any of the sensors, wiring etc, so common is this fault. After nipping up all of the wheel bearings (one had excessive play), hey presto, ABS light extinguished! |

Is the wheel bearing and oil seal a DIY for mechanically inclined novice mechanic? I would imagine you woul remove wheel, caliper, rotor, and there they are. Pull 'em out and slide new ones in? I think I saw a site that walked you through brake job (with pictures). It was one of the vendors listed on this site but I forget which one. |
