Has anyone had the oil filler neck back out on them? I was changing my oil and noticed that the cap was on very tight and when I did get it to come off the whole tube came off with it. I am having a very hard time getting it to go back on. The threads just seem to be guncked up with whatever sealer LR uses at the factory. Right now is is on as far as it will go and probably cross threaded as well. It isn't leaking but needs to be fixed. Any opinions out there?--Matt |

This problem has happened numerous times. In my situation I simply threaded the tube back in nice and snug. Now when I change my oil I make a concious effort to not overtighten the filler cap. The filler tube has come off one other time since the original problem, but I approach it as basically a nusiance (sp) and not really a failure. I'm a little reluctant to try any threadlocking compounds, but they probably could be used if done carefully. Bottom line. keep the filler tube tight, and ease up a tad on the cap. |

I just had this same problem only my cap would not come off at all, so I tried to uses some channel locks and cracked the neck. I ordered a new one and cross threaded it first try. I was going to use a dremal tool to clean the threads of the threadlock, I guess that is what is there. I was thinking anything that falls into the engine would be removed by the filter. Am I correct in that assumption or should I do something different? |

Eric, It would probably be better to take off the valve cover before decontaminating it. Of course if you are planning to trade your Disco in or sell it (I generally run my cars to death and beyond, no resale value), then go for it. But there may be particles droped into the oil that are harder than bearing material, and why chance it not getting picked up by the filter. -Reed |
