I know that the issue of tires and sizes have been beat to death, so I hope not to cause much trouble. I already have a tire in mind, just more curious about size and load ratings. Yes I have looked in the tech section at the tire and wheels as well as searching the archives, but this one has not came up that I can find. First to start off with I have the stock type XPC 's on my '97 Disco. I noticed what appears to be a lot of dry rot cracks as well as the tire are starting to (saw blade) and wearing on the inside (toe out). So I drove to my local tire dealer and asked his opinion. He told me that the tire could last for awhile or could go bad anytime, it was more of what I wanted to do. So with that in mind I asked what type of tire he would put on and we talked about sizes. He recommend about 5 or 6 differnt type tires and then suggest that I go with a 255-70-16. He said this is a standard tire on the new ford 1/2 ton pickups with off road (read joke) package and towing kit. So my question is with out a lift, can I fit this size tire on my Disco and will this require much trimming? I don't mind the trimming part, but lifting right now might cause my wife to shoot me. I would have to do this in a few stages over a couple of months if lifting and trimming is required. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. |

I also own 97 disco .am running cooper 255/70/15mudders which just cleard the guards at standard height although the steering stops needed a tweek. I have since lifted the suspension 50mm and installed adjustable gas shocks." expect some road noize with the muds " |
