I've a '99 DII just coming up on 92K. No abuse, change oil every 3K, did the 30K maintenance and never any serious problems. Great truck!. Question: the Service Engine Soon light has just come on. Does this indicate the need for a tune up? What does that entail? Plugs, wires, rotor etc? Am I better off buying the parts and having my Goodyear mechanic do the work or should I take it to the dealer? What's a fair and reasonable charge for a tune up? |

Depends on what you need. If youre going for the grand tune up it will cost you an arm and leg at the dealer. You can probably do some work yourself. Like sparkplugs, diff oil, change oil, coolant change, fuel filter, spark plug wires, air filter. Then the rest you cant do let your mechanic do it. Just buy the parts. Roverconnection.com is reasonable in prices. Use only genuine parts. Use Magnecore spark plug wires. Thats the only non genuine that i use. |

Thanks Mark! I'm not afraid to turn a wrench (just did front brake pads) but my level of expertise isn't the greatest. Do you know whre i can get a "How to" on changing plugs, wires etc? |

Get a dealer service manual, rovers north, rover connection, or atlantic britsh. You can get a hayes manual for discoverys, but they are for 95 and older, afraid the best choice is the dealer manual for like $100. Plugs, wires, diff oils and transmittion oil and filter are fairly straight foward jobs. |

henry , fyi, your D2 has an in tank fuel filter that is a life time filter. don't try to look for it or change it. and start with the basics, and there is nothing wrong with the factory type plug wires, besides they're less money (especially at napa) and get a dealer service manual as andy suggests (not a haynes) it will help a bunch! marc |
