Greetings! My name is Lloyd and I'm the proud new owner of a '98 Discovery LE. The car is a real beauty and wonderful to drive. However, the remote entry doesn't seem to be working. I've replaced the batteries in the unit, yet nothing happens. I saw the programming instructions on this site, where you pop the hood and lock/unlock the doors in sequence, but that didn't work either! So my questions: 1.) Does that programming sequence work on a 98? (I have a two button remote btw). 2.) Do I HAVE to take it to the dealer? (They want to charge me $55 to do it!) Any help would appreciated!

As far as I know, the dealer is the only one who can reprogram the 2-button remote. However, I imagine that your remote, if it once worked for your car, is probably broken - it probably would not have de-programmed itself. That, or the unit inside the car is broken. Anyway, the dealer 'only' charged me $40 for mine, so you might look for another dealer in the area.

Maybe your remote is toast. Open it up and see if any of the soldered joints have come apart. The remotes do fail.

Lloyd, per the owners manual for a D1, when the remote fails to work press the lock button four times within range of the vehicle.

Try that.

Lloyd,
I also had issues with my remote. Try what Alyssa stated. I replaced the batteries and no luck. So I opened the case to find two of my connections broke. I soldered them back together and it works. Let me know.
