I was wondering if there was a way I can test the read out under the passenger seat to see if its working? My red check engine light is on but theres no read out...
Also just to make sure I've got the right box I included the pic...

is it your Red Service Engine light or your Amber/Orange Check Engine light that is on?

Phil-I'll bet your truck has +/- 52K, 103K or 155K miles on it.

just means emissions related service is to be done (don't worry about actually doing it though). go here for procedure: http://www.discoweb.org/reset/index.htm
your box is actually under your passenger seat next to your check engine code readout.

doubtful. the light is literally set to just come on when a certain mileage is reached. it is not connected to any sensors. i have had my light (this is Service Engine/red) on for the past 2 years, but it is not on permanently, it just flickers. just lucas fuckin with me/you. thankfully i just have my steering wheel set so that i can't see the light normally and it doesn't bother me. one of these days i'll either pull the bulb, or disconnect the shit.

I just got the light to go out!! I found my emission box under the passenger seat.. Thanks for all the help! BTW my diso has just over 195k .

I'm still wondering if the box in the picture above is the one which would have a digital read out if there was a fault code?? It does not seem to have a screen of anykind ?? I'm assuming if there was a code it would light up through the cover???

Yes, the box in the picture is supposed to illuminate a number corresponding to an error which corresponds to the Yellow Check Engine light. You cant see the screen because the plastic is tinted.

If you want to see a code on that readout, disconnect your battery for about 30 seconds, reconnect it, turn the key on and take a look at it, it should give you a 02 code to let you know that a battery disconnect occurred. After you start the vehicle the code will clear.
An interesting little box but, from what I've read on this board, not necessarily totally reliable for accurate diagnosis.
