Ahoy hoy all,

I need to get a cover for my spare tire. What are the pros/cons between the soft and hard covers (DII)?

Best regards...

I have a dealer specific soft cover. Pro, was that it was free from the dealer - shameless advertisement but I think its cool. When I see other Disco's out there, I try to find out what dealer they're from.

I think the hard covers have locks on them

I have a dealer supplied soft cover. Besides keeping the tire clean, it prevents UV from hitting the tire which some say can damage the tire rubber. The hard covers are not good since they allow moisture and dirt to get trapped inside causing the wheel to rust and the tire to go funny.

I have never had any personal experience with this, but this is what I have read.

Hope that helps,
Jamil

Not having a spare cover myself I would hazard these statements.

Hard cover is more expensive.

It is also more expensive to fix or replace if you damage it. (I just recently really gouged the plasic frizbee thingy on mine)

Soft covers seem to always be on e-Bay going for between $10 and $90 (depending on dealers name).

As a collector of sorts (no I don't collect tire covers), I am looking for one of the old (porbably around '94 hard covers for the Disco as I think it looks cool, but I wouldn't have on the trail with me.)

Either way if you upgrade your tires (all around) it won't fit anymore.

Hi
Just make sure you are happy with your current tyre size, if you change they wont fit.
I know guys here in the UK swap there dealer tyre covers with guys from other countries, this looks cool in there eyes, and dumps the dealer advertising somewhere where it is irrelevant.

Speaking of spare tire covers, What does one use to clean & protect the soft cover from UV damage?
