An article in the USA Today newspaper, (actually I read the internet based edition), places LandRover next to last for quality for autos sold in the US. The only car manufactor to beat LR for last place was Kia. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-07-08-quality_x.htm http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-07-08-quality_x.htm |

Don't ever make a typo in the URL. When you go to correct it, you will never get it to display as a link in you message. That's what happened. |

here's the copy of an email i sent to my brother after he forwarded me yet another link to JDPower report:
quote:I've seen the JD Power report long ago. It is very useful for people who don't give a shit about what they drive, and very misleading for those who do. For instance, compare two wheel drive with a four wheel drive vehicle. Of course there will be more failures on a 4WD! Just because there's shitload more parts there to break. Besides, 4WDs tend to come with more amenities than regular family sedans. Similarly - compare 321 fault in an average jeep with 441 in a Land Rover. Do you know that about 50% of jeeps on the road are 2WD? LR doesn't make a single 2WD model. So, the LR quality is actually better than jeep's, which is what I'd think. The regular passenger cars in the bottom five are real turds - and have always been! In this country, VW was a symbol of poor quality until it nearly disappeared and reappeared in the mid-90s - but the production hasn't changed that much. 'Zuki, Daewoo, and Kia can't possibly be any good because they are cheap as dirt.

the one comment that might shed some light for LR is: "Jaguar is the most "underappreciated," Ivers says. At 247, it scored well above the industry average and is the most improved brand since the study began." possibly Ford can do the same for LR. Jaime

No doubt the Power survey is based on solid research, and, having struggled with a '95 Discovery for a few years, I'm no stranger to LR's build-quality issues. Still, quality reports are relevant to those who don't care what they're driving, as long as it's trouble-free. Fine - but I bought my Land Rovers for their capabilities and their style. Otherwise, I'd be driving a Civic. |
