This thing is driving me nuts... At low RPMs it has no power and is running like ass. It also makes this weird back-fire poping noise out the snorkel quite often.

The ECU is reading clear with no warnings, I have replaced the stepper motor, plugs, wires, adjusted the potentiometer, reset the mass air, reset timing, adjusted base idle, among several other things.

Does anyone out there have any ideas for me???

Camshaft, timing chain, or both.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to check ignition timing again.

airgap set correct on baseplate

um plug color?

i wonder if it's starving for fuel or has enough just at the wrong time.

mine would do that poping sound when the fuel pump was dying.

I am going to check the camshaft and timing chain tonite. The plugs are good and brand new as of last night. I also replaced the fuel filter. Fuel pump possibly... How can you tell for sure it's on it's way out? Is there actually a way to test it out?

use a pressure guage to test it on the fuel rail there is a little value there you screew it onto looks like for a tire. the guage is avalible it all autopart stores, some even loan them to you. i bought mine for $30

needs to be between 29-34psi i beleive.

after the knocking sounds, take out a few plugs and see if they are discouloured. sooty or white ... can clue you in.

might even have a bunk injector, i dont know..

What about your vacuum advance or your ignition module. Don't forget the simple things.

Jason

The intake igniting is most likely caused by:

Ig timing way off.
Timing chain has jumped a notch (how many miles on engine)??
Camshaft completely worn out.
Clogged cat converters.

Hi
how about dizzy cap and rotor arm.
Mine lost all power and the spark was arcing all over the place when they pegged out.
It drove me nuts and the parts were new so took them to be ok and I changaed much the same as you before i found out.

Russell's advice may have some valid points...supposedly the aftermarket "black" distributor cap has enough carbon in the plastic to cause the spark to jump. Just a thought, but maybe worth it to try a blue LR cap.

Damn! It's the CATS!!! Anyways, I am going to get them ripped out tomorrow and install two test pipes... I will let you all know what is happening then...

The CATS were too clogged which caused the exhaust manifold gasket to blow and also caused the o2 sensor in bank B burn up do to too much pressure building up. This also explains my EXTREME loss of power and nasty gas mileage...

Ahh, I love those Rovers... :-)

About that flame arrestor or whatever that thing is on the pass valve cover. Can this be gotten for another vehicle for less money? Mine is quite clogged as well and a good soaking in kerosene didn't do a damn thing!

Thanks.
