Hey guy! Im moving to California (the central coast)and Im wondering if I need to have the lights on my rack covered. I have the rock gaurd covers on now and at time I run them around naked and have not been pulled over here in UT. So my question to cover or not to cover, whats the law? |

I believe the law states that they need to be covered. I run the clear rock guards on mine and never had any problems. |

I remember way back when this used to be a real issue in Calif. Anymore tough and I see people running aroung the highways with their factory driving lights on all the time. Up on the rack I keep the Hellas covered, except in the winter when it gets real dark, and real storm7y where I live. No one has bothered me so far. I am not sure about the legal technicalities but if you have Hella's you might check out their clear covers. I am getting some for the 550 fog lights to act a stone shields, and will probably go that route for the 4K's up on the rack. Keep the solid covers in the back incase some county mounty is having a bad day and decides "Your It!" BTW - where in the central coast are you moving to. I am near Santa Cruz. -Reed |

to my knowledge california law permits 2 uncovered auxiliary lights mounted at bumper level or below to be used when hi beams would be appropriate. All lights above hood level must be covered when on road. i'd say that if you are going to drive around with ANY lights uncovered you should keep a printed copy of the code with you. there is no particular reason CHP or anyone else is going to be especially knowledgeable about the letter of this law and if they think it's wrong they'll just go ahead and give you a ticket. |
