This has always confused me: What is the difference between a body lift and a suspension lift? I get the concept of the lifted suspension (even *I* can understand that). Honest, I've read a zillion threads and have never understood the difference. Thanks for any clarification.

a suspension lift is either taller or stiffer springs or spacers that go under under the springs. so you lift everything except the axels. that is the good part...the bad part is it changes driveline angles which could result in vibrations and or rotoflex or u-joint wear. a body lift places spacers between the body and the frame. so no changes to the driveline occure. that is the good part. the bad part is that you do not raise anything other than the body, so you do not gain ground clearance anywhere. it is mostly done to get extra room for bigger tires. but they require moving some things in the engine compartment. the mounts on the body move up, but if they have any connection to the frame, they will have to be adjusted down.

hope it helps.

Michael,

Thanks for the info. It does help, but I think I'll have to pull out my workshop manual and try and get a clue looking at that to put it all together in my head. Thanks, again!

Karen:
Suspension lift increases the distance from the axles to the chassis on which the bodywork, engine sit. Body lift increases the distance between the chassis and the body.

Karen, think of a suspension lift as adding leg extensions to your horse. A body lift would be like cutting your horse in half horizontally and adding a section in there. That help?
