You'll have a distributor now. 3.9 usually doesn't have the valve problems that the 4.0 does. Expect to have a potato-chip dash.

Pretty much the same vehicle, you'll have a lot of the same likes, and dislikes.

FWIW....

gaskets.I was told it runs rough due to that,
any idea what its worth?

needs head gaskets?

are they leaking?

there are tons of things that can cause them to run rough, if the head gasket isnt leaking coolent or if the vehicle isnt blowing white smoke I would start looking for problems else where...might be a bargain if the price is discounted for the Head job.

I love my 94. it has 100k on it now and still runs perfect.

yes it takes up keep.I just had to do a wheel bearing half way thru a 400 mile trip, but the fact is i did it with simple tools in 25 min with $36 worth of parts from napa.try that in a D2,pathfinder,or xterra.

get the 94!....the on board code read out and the tuning control of a distributer make it a very desirable choice when you consider its the same chassic that the later D1's share

Do you think head gaskets and tuneup could
improve rough running.

Yes, it's possible. I have a 95 and it hasnt been completely trouble free, but with 149000 miles and considering the problems, I can't really complain. Most of my problems have been sensors. Or trivial things that dont usually break on other cars, for example, my sun visor snapped once. Now, how many cars have you owned that had a bad sun visor?

I was offered a 94 that runs rough for 2,000
117k but needs lots of cosmetic work and apparently runs rough,I'm thinking its a steal.

It seems a common problem for 94 Disco is head gasket leak, I have a 94 Disco with 147k and head gasket leak, it runs great but need to check the oil frequently. For 2,000, I think that's a good deal but you might end spending 1500-2500 head gasket job.

I had been quoted 1,200 for head gaskets but
for that much do I go further and drop an
engine in.
