Hi Folks,

May I start by saying I have just joined this group and am pleased to be here.

I wish to mount a CompaQ PDA close to the dash and visible from the driving position. The screen of the CompaQ will be coupled to a GPS unit.

Has anyone done this? What I have in mind is a mount on a 'gooseneck' will will allow the PDA to be moved or viewed by either driver or pasenger.

Is there anything commercially available or will something suitable have to be homebrew?

Regards from Nigel

Well I run that setup. It's nice but sometimes I wish I had a laptop. So if your going to spend the money for a new Ipaq you might want to look at full blown PCs. I think for door to door street routing the Ipaq works nicely. The screen size comes into play when trying to locate or navigate to trails.

As far as the mount goes. I use a suction cup mount for PDAs which I bought at the local office depot. I mount it really low on the windshield so it's barely noticeable from the front. Then I just took out the center rubber piece on the dash. Mounted my GPS with velcro hooked it up to my Ipaq on the mount. The Ipaq is held to the mount with velcro too. The only reason I do that is because I use the Ipaq when I fly aircraft without moving map GPS in the panel. I keep forgeting to take a picture of my setup, but I'd be glad to post one if you want to see it. It doesn't look as ghetto as it sounds.

Hope that helps.

Nigel,

I have a iPaq and have the Navman GPS sleeve. I bought the Arkon Resources mount that screws into the dash. Both the driver and the passenger can see it and hear it.

I love it! I bought mine straight from www.arkonresources.com. Also check out www.mobileplanet.com or www.pocketpc.com. I will see if I have any pictures that show the mount.
