Scenario: a 99 D1 with 79K miles (the one I am supposed to pick up tomorrow).

Idle was running at 1000 yesterday and has always been right on with that. The seller dropped it off for an oil change. When he picked it up, it idles between 1250 ~ 1500. He also states that he is not getting any warning lights. To his chagrin, the mechanic isn't willing to concede that they may have caused the problem.

Since someone was under the truck and under the hood yesterday, my first thought is maybe a bad vacuum hose? Is it possible that the TPS could have caused this?

I searched the archives and found numerous threads on low idle but nothing on high idling that seemed relevant. Any suggestions?

FWIW - How about something simple like the 'lil throttle adjuster on the cable?
I accidently overtighened once and the idle went @1500 RPM...

I'll check that. I also told him to try pulling the negative battery lead for 10 minutes.

The dilemma I am facing with diagnosis is if the damage was caused during the service or if it is coincidental.

From other posts I have read, it seems that if it was coincidental, it may need a new IAC and a visit to the dealership to reset the ECU with Testbook. That sounds like about a $300.00 trip.

The seller truly feels that they caused it. If they have banged or bumped something, I'm trying to figure out what it could be.
