There was some guy around here that put a 383 with a tunnel ram in a cherokee to drag race with. I never saw it personally but people say it was fast, but I always wondered WTF?

The guy that put the Ferrari engine in the Jeep was Bill Harrah, a car collector of some renoun and a multi-millionaire, and when that really meant something. As I recall he hadon separate occasions crashed both the Jeep and the Ferrari so... Waste not, want not...

It was pretty cool back then, considering how underpowered the factory Jeep was.

The V-12 in the LR looks fun to. You got to remember that Jags, and Defenders are pretty common in the U.K. and not always held in the same awe and reverebnce as we do here.

Reed, this is okay as long as one has some engine laying around and time and cash to implement the conversion.

however... I don't know details about the rover, but the jeep conversion looks rather dumb to me. the ferrari's V12 has smaller displacement than the (indeed archaic) jeep's V8. I think it would be fair to say that ferrari engine's torque under 1500-2000 rpm is about a half that of the jeep, with all the consequences.

i think a jag v12 is not well suited for a land rover, for the very same reason.

Peter-

You said it all in the first line.

"this is okay as long as one has some engine laying around and time and cash to implement the conversion."

I don't know that it was converted to enhance the Jeeps off-road capabilities, but probably more for the ability to use Nevada's lack of highway speed limits at the time.

Mostly I think it was just done for the fun of it. The Jag-Rover conversion may have been done for the same reason. Kenetic Art.

I hope he modified the suspension on that cherokee, I get the feeling they might be scary at speed.

I believe that truck was a Wagoneer. I don't think Cherokee's were even avalible at the time. I can't remember enough about the Wagoneer's suspension, or know enough about the Cherokee's to say if they were the same or not.

Thge picture shows the truck in an auto museum, I am betting it is part of the world famous Harrah's collection, as it was once one of Bill Harrah's personal vehicles (Like they all weren't.) I am sure that the suspension was modified to the state of the art for the time it was built. (By todays standards, that might still be considered poor.)
