2001 D2, OME 2" HD's, TrueTrac Fr/ Diff, 14k miles -

I am getting ready to cut the lower portion of stock front bumper, decided I can live without front aftermarket if stock is cut. I do want to add a front winch, however. What are my options for mounting?

Rear bumper, on the other hand, I'm sure must go. I like the looks of the SG rear with integrated rear hitch (pull a little pop-up sometimes) and the gas tank 'slider'. I've got no qualms about cutting the rear quarter panels - Greg Davis, are you out there? Any other comments based on experience I'd find helpful?

Thanks for your help,

John F

Not too many options on mounting a winch to a stock front bumper. For a long time I had a LR "A-bar" winch mount that I modified so as to not cut down the approach. If you change the bumper, there are many options, many of which are not too extreme.
Before you buy a SG rear, take a look at www.aedofab.com Very good protection, very good service, and very reasonable price.

Mark -
I'm glad you chimed in. So, the LR A-Bar winch kit cuts down on approach? What, does it have supports that bolt under like the D2 rear hitch kit?

How did you modify yous? Well, crap, what with the cost of the LR winch mount, maybe I ought to take a closer look at a bumper / winch combo.

Thanks,

John F

John,
Bermach makes a "discrete winch mount" that tucks in between the frame rails below and behind your original front bumper. It will fit either a Warn or Ramsey winch and does not appear to alter the approach angle. The main drawback to this setup, is that it is harder to see and correct improper cable spooling on the winch drum. However, I hear that using a synthetic "rope" and Hawse (non-roller) fairlead helps compensate for this.

Check out the info and install at this link on the Disco2 website:

Good Luck,

Rich

Rich -

I really like the looks of this. Since I'm cutting the stock bumper anyway, I might be able to make the whole thing tidy. Yea, it mounts quite low, but if I'm stuck in the 80 miles from the nearest pavement & cell service in central Nevada, I'm sure it will work just fine.

I like the 'stealth' look a little, too. Thanks, I'll call DAP tomorrow to see if there are any 'gotcha's with the D2.
