Electric fans only come on when: 1) A/C is running; 2) engine on, A/C off, but coolant exceeds 110 degrees C; or 3) engine off, coolant exceeds 100 degrees C and fuel temp exceeds 70 degrees C (in which case they will run for 10 minutes). Did you change your thermostat? If not, it's a possibility since you changed everything else. |

I just replaced my thermostat but the engine still seems to be starting to overheat. The two fans don't come on until you turn on the a/c. How can you check to see if the fans should be working when the engine starts to overheat. To me personaly I think these engines are poorly engineered, because you think Land Rover should make these cars to suffer the harshes elimates without problems. But with just normal driving in suburban america causes problems that shouldn't exist. |

repost radiator fans, inregard to potential over heat 99d1 with new engine, rad, hoses, thermo, front fans not working at all, temp starts to climb at extended idel here in AZ. once moving goes back to normal range quickly.I'm thinking must be because front fans not working?? how to trouble shoot fans, does rad. have to come out to service?? help loosing cool in AZ. |

Is the viscous coupling on the main engine-powered fan working? If it is, you should hear that fan kick in when the temp starts to climb. The noise is quite loud (sounds like a prop plane taking off), so you'll know if it kicks in. If it is not, that could also explain the overheating when you're not moving. |

I been experiencing overheating problems in the past month and this is my experience. First I did have one of the AC fans not working. When A/C is on both fans should be working at all times. When the AC is off the fans should come on from time to time, especially if your engine is overheating. Test it by getting out of the car when the engine is reading hot and check that the fans are on, if they are not on it could be the Fan Thermal Switch that is not working. If the AC fans are not working when the AC is on more than likely you need to replace them, pretty easy thing to do. First remove the grille bumper, three screws on top and on bottom you have to be careful on snapping the grille off from both sides. The fans are protected by cross bars, unscrew those out of they way and finally the fans are held in place by four screws, take those off and the fan should pop out, the harderst thing is the connector, it is shoved up in between the top of the radiator cover and the fan housing, they are also attached with a plastic tip to a metal piece hard things to pry out. Once finished replace fans, test them by turning car on and AC on, both fans should kick in and replace everything else. I am still having overheating problems and working through them. |
