Hi There -- I've ready a lot on this site about Min V.Syn oil, but then a buddy told me there is a similar option for your transmition fluid. I know nothing of this - can anyone fill me in?
Thanks.

As far as I know fluid is all synthetic, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure. IMO you just can't go wrong with synth fluids. They cost more but it isn't so much more that it out weighs the safety of using synth.--Matt

It actually depends. Automatic transmissions require a precise amount of friction to operate properly. Although i'm not familiar with the GM Dexron ATF specifications, I know that while Ford Mercon III is completely petroleum based, Mercon V is a synthetic blend. Most of the Ford automatic transmissions since late 98 now use Mercon V with the exception of the F150 Lightning which uses Mercon III.

Although using a synthetic transmission fluid is great, I would be very cautious. Synthetic fluids are generally a lot more slippery than petroleum based fluids. While lower friction is better in an engine, transmissions require a precise amount of friction to operate properly. Some synthetic ATF's may not have the proper amount of friction modifiers for a particular type of transmission to operate properly, while others do. I think synthetic transmission fluid is great for a transmission, but be careful in what you choose to run in your vehicle.
