Does anyone know who make the OEM brake pads? Rover connection has geniune pads $117/95 front/rear. I found a site called overnite auto parts that carries "lucas oem" pads for $96/68 front/rear (free shipping). I want to go with genuine this time, next time I will do the kevlar. Thanks

Genuine rover pads suck. I've had my truck for 2 years and replaced them 3 times, drove a toyota tacoma for 2 years and replaced them once. My pads need replaced a 4th time. They also said you have to buy new rotors or the pads will warp, and that a machinest can not turn the titanium composite rotors but they in fact can. I would definately go with the kevlar pads.

Lockheed are OEM for a Disco.

A Disco weighs twice what a Tacoma does. The fact that your pads don't last as long, when comparing two different vehicles, doesn't necessarily mean that they're doing bad.

Kevlar pads work best once they've really warmed up, like on a race-car. For a daily driver, with intermittent braking, you may actually notice a decrease in braking performance.

I have no idea what the heck titanium composite rotors have to do with a Disco.

Rover rotors are typical steel rotors. However, the problem with the rotors on a D1 is the tolerance to begin with: there's not a lot of extra meat in a Rover rotor. Even if you have only an average amount of miles on a set of rotors, if there's any scoring at all on them, you may very well be deep enough into them that to turn them to where they're smooth would have them below the minimum required thickness.

If you change your pads more frequently, before there's any scoring on the rotor, then you can get through two, maybe 3 sets of pads before you have to do the rotors (Me? I usually don't get to my pads until after they've gotten into the rotors, so, I have to change the rotors too. Speaking of, when my wife gets back into town, it'll probably be about time to put rotors on her vehicle).

If you are interested Nathan at Discount Rovers sells Brembo rotors for both D1 and DII's for around $50.00 each. They can be turned and are pretty thick to begin with. Changing the pads often is very good advice. I do mine every 25K. I use Mintex (cheap) pads and the brakes work very well, although they are very dirty pads. Nothing that a little soap and water does not cure. Good luck--Matt

Bendix Australia sell 4x4 pads called "Kevlar alumina matrix" they work well hot or cold. Front pads seem to last longer then the rears. These pads are about $75 OZ. 25 K miles seems like heavy usage to me, I see some cars with 100k km on the clock still with the original front pads.

I use Mintex red box almost exclusively on my cars and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Getting ready to change mine on the DII. Every 25K or so for me - Atlanta traffic sucks!!!!

Used Fredo (sp?) last time - Atlantic British - I have been fairly pleased but one does squeak alot. I really don't see much advantage in the genuine unless someone can convince me otherwise.
Cost is around $200 for all four. Have yet to replace the rotors. Mechanic said they should last for 100K.
