Now that I have your attention, here's what I have to say, and what you all should know about the "DWEB Lounge".

The inclusion of the LOUNGE into this BBS has left a lot of members puzzled, confused perhaps, and certainly aspiring to become a part of it, but here's what's happened. The Trinity (moderators) or perhaps we can call them Gods, have decided that the lesser Gods who have resided on Egroups, namely "Discoveryoffroad" needed to be transferred to "DWEB heaven", and so it has come to pass. Instead of "Dweb lounge member" perhaps "God" and "lesser Gods" would be more appropriate.

A few days ago when this "Lounge" thing made its appearance, I asked the question as to what the criteria was to gain acceptance, along with some other members who asked simular questions. To date there have been no replies from the GODS nor any announcements.

For the mere mortals of this BBS who have got their hands up wanting to be accepted to the LOUNGE, I say this, put you hands down, because unless you happen to trail with these guys, work or do business with them, or are related to them in some manner, you will find it difficult if not impossible to get in.

What upset me about this is that the whole concept of it was based on how "BAD" everyone has been, when in fact there was an alterior motive.
The way I see it, if the GODS were so upset at the useless posts, the flaming wars, the repeat question posts etc, they could easily have cleaned up the site by issuing warnings for poster to stay on-topic (3 warnings and your deleted or zapped), but they chose not to do this. Why not, if the site was getting such a bad name?
The culmination of all of these things has been a good excuse in establishing the environment for transplanting "Discoveryoffroad" into this BBS.

What would be nice, would be an announcement from the GODS telling us mere mortals the truth. To quote an old saying, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people, all of the time".

In conclusion, I would like to say that I enjoy coming to the BBS and have over time gained and shared knowledge, but a little more openness from those in charge would be refreshing.
I hope my comments have not angered the GODS too much. If it has I await your zapping........ahhhhhhhhh.

This should be good..... I can actually use one command and turn the site off with absolutely no explanation to anyone. I can ban the two of you in the same manner. Fact is , you dont have to understand and you arent owed anything.
Roland , you are so wrong it actually made me laugh when I read the post. I will let some of the other lounge members post in this thread to day to show you just how full of shit your statement was about the "Criteria"... The mind is a terrible thing to waste. I suggest you burn your brain cells worrying about something else..

Who the fuck cares what the moderators of this site want to do?

They will do as they wish, and don't need your questions or input. Just be happy you have a site like this you can come to.

Your definitely one of those people who wants what he can't have, and will do just about anything to get it. People like you piss me off and are a detriment to the greater society.

Plain and simple, your a moron. Stop wasting bandwidth and people's time.

Brian, if you could care less what I have to say, then why do you care whether or not I may have called you a moron?

For your reference if you didn't figure it out, I was posting in regards to Roland. Not you. He initiated the thread, and is the person I think is a moron.

However, if you were backing him up or agreeing with him. Then yes, I think your a moron as well.

I agree who cares it thier site they can do what they want with it. Just to think what it would be like without D-web for a few weeks. IMHO I think it would be better if D-Web was a pay site for access to the BB, I would def pay up. I have been reading D-web for a while, I have definatly seen a change in the attitudes of the people and te content of posts. I am sorry to see the change in peoples attitudes, I guess change is really inevitible.

whats wrong with you people?? these guys dont owe you a f?@king thing roland.. youve been around for what.. a year? this site has been around for a lot longer than that. I remember when it was a much different place, something which you wouldnt, because you werent here. What do you contribute anyway? stupid misplaced pictures that when nobody responds to them, you repost them again?? give me a break man, you have no say here and you are owed no explanation. The trilogy of moderators here was not elected, this is not a democracy, they OWN this site. If you leave, i doubt youll be missed. My only thoughts to the "gods" of the dweb would be to make the lounge invisible to those who dont belong. This way, if they dont have to look at the link to it every time they log on, eventually it will be forgotten and all this faggity whining will hopefully disappear. When all the old guys disappeared I had assumed there already was a secret sneaky back-door dweb thing goin on. It only makes sense.

Roland.. Wow! Your post was truly a dive into stupidity. You really should have done some reading before you sat down and popped that gem out. Lets take a look at it closer shall we...

"Now that I have your attention, here's what I have to say, and what you all should know about the "DWEB Lounge"."

I found it hilarious you kicked your post off with this statement and then followed with the even more laughable ".. but here's what's happened." statement considering that the majority of your entire post, outside of your statement that "some members are puzzled", was completely inaccurate and without any kind of merit what so ever, but rather, showed that you are someone who simply is too lazy to read all the information that WAS placed in front of you in the 2 threads that you selectively pulled bits of your reasoning from (Older Members & Dweb Lounge threads). Had you actually read them carefully in their entirety, your post I think would have been quite different if there would have been one at all. I will explain why, with real fact, rather than wild unfounded speculation that you resorted to use since you obviously failed to read the posts where Ax basically came out and told people what the "Lounge" was and then later clued people in on what was going on.

"The Trinity (moderators) or perhaps we can call them Gods, have decided that the lesser Gods who have resided on Egroups, namely "Discoveryoffroad" needed to be transferred to "DWEB heaven", and so it has come to pass. Instead of "Dweb lounge member" perhaps "God" and "lesser Gods" would be more appropriate."

FACT: 1/2 of the testers in the Lounge are not DiscoveryOffRoad members including myself. Additionally, while I am a member of one or two other Discovery related eGroups, I am not active in them. In fact, the LR-Discovery Yahoo groups that the 3 Amigos are members/owners of, I have not participated in for over a year and a half I believe. You had absolutely NO basis to even formulate this kind of theory other than you saw one other person MENTION the DOR group in one post.

"A few days ago when this "Lounge" thing made its appearance, I asked the question as to what the criteria was to gain acceptance, along with some other members who asked similar questions. To date there have been no replies from the GODS nor any announcements."

FACT: This WAS answered by Axel in the thread that started this whole ball rolling. and other postings from other members on the site that made it clear that people did read what was being told to them and understood what was going on. Funny how YOUR very lack of attention has caused you to get in this state.

"For the mere mortals of this BBS who have got their hands up wanting to be accepted to the LOUNGE, I say this, put you hands down, because unless you happen to trail with these guys, work or do business with them, or are related to them in some manner, you will find it difficult if not impossible to get in."

FACT: Yet AGAIN, you have absolutely nothing credible to base this statement on and it again shows your lack of understanding. When you do preliminary testing of software or services in business, you first use a control group of people you know will provide the best level of feedback before you turn it loose for public beta, and then full public release if it goes that far. Now the same concept is applied to privately owned website development everywhere. Webmasters start testing something new, they generally get it going and look it over on their own first. Then when they feel its ready for more eyes, they generally email their buddies and/or a small group of candidates who they know and value their input on which obviously didn't include you in this case and a lot of other people and realistically can't because the purpose of a control group would be lost.

"What upset me about this is that the whole concept of it was based on how "BAD" everyone has been, when in fact there was an alterior motive."

FACT: What's upsetting you is that you can't get in there and your entire post backs this up.

"The way I see it, if the GODS were so upset at the useless posts, the flaming wars, the repeat question posts etc.."

This is actually your only other correct statement. This is exactly what had lead to the creation of the Lounge testing area. Unfortanatly you blow it with the remaining parts of the statement.

"...they could easily have cleaned up the site by issuing warnings for poster to stay on-topic (3 warnings and your deleted or zapped), but they chose not to do this. Why not, if the site was getting such a bad name? The culmination of all of these things has been a good excuse in establishing the environment for transplanting "Discoveryoffroad" into this BBS."

FACT: This statement just plain and simple, stinks of ignorance. What board are you visiting because you sure as shit are not reading this one if you truly believe your statement. Over the past 2 years, we have seen countless time where Ax, Ho, & Kyle have asked and begged, time, after time, after time for people to behave and reduce the amount of shit. They have always wanted to avoid banning, censuring, and the complete deletion of threads but as time goes on and their simple request for people to act responsibly here continued to go ignored, it now has come to this since some people simply cant control themselves. And again, you have no reasoning or basis to assume it is a means to transplant the DOR members other than you read one post and remained hung up on it. Warnings have been given out again and again. Did it ever occur to you that maybe exactly those kinds of emails WERE being sent without requiring them to CC'ing you on them?

"What would be nice, would be an announcement from the GODS telling us mere mortals the truth. To quote an old saying, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people, all of the time". "

FACT: When they want you to know something that applies to the whole, they tell you not when YOU deem it necessary. Obviously with no general announcement regarding the Lounge, you are not meant to be informed about it.

"In conclusion, I would like to say that I enjoy coming to the BBS and have over time gained and shared knowledge, but a little more openness from those in charge would be refreshing."

FACT: The owners of this site have always been open about just about anything relating to the site regarding information that the whole population should know about when they were ready to announce such info. No website or business makes announcements until they are good god damn ready to so why should this be any different.

Your post only served to show that you are among the "self serving selfish me me me" users that visit the site feeling that the guys OWE you this site and that you should have a vote or something in the decisions that run the site or what's said on it. Guess what, YOU DON'T. This is a privately owned site. The owners ALLOW you to access it out of the goodness from their hearts because they feel other may benefit from it. You have no rights other than what the owners FEEL like giving you and they can change that whenever they wish. THAT'S the reality of the WWW and privately owned sites. That's what people like you don't understand.

So I will state it hear loud and clear so that even you can understand what the Lounge is since you obviously lack the ability to understand when Ax said it:
The Lounge is a closed test area. If the owners of the site feel they need more people, they will say so.

As to what is going on in there, other on the board have seem to understand what's really going on, if you stop bitching and actually read something, you should as well.

I've never met Axel, Ho, or Kyle in person, never hit a trail with them. I don't work with them, and I don't do business with them. A Scandinavian, an Asian, and a Dutchman (sounds like a setup for a joke, "they walk into a bar"), nope, I'm not even remotely kin to any of them.

So, I suppose not, then.....

I am just utterly amazed at how much emotion has been brought out by the creation of the lounge. Who the fuck cares if the owners created a test area? Jesus H Christ, are there really that many fucked up people out there that have NO LIFE that they have to be upset because the Trinity created a limited access area? Even if it weren't for testing, even if it was just there so they could laugh at the asses people make of themselves on this BBS, who the fuck cares? This BBS belongs to the Trinity, it's their money and effort, the rest of you come here to learn about Rovers, and maybe meet some local people to wheel with, and thats all. After that, go home to your families and do something positive rather than cry on here about the lounge.

Chris, Kyle, Ho, Ax et al, do what ya gotta do and stop getting upset with the assholes, who the fuck cares what they think. It's not like there is any value in it.

Damn, Chris, remind me to never piss you off...

This sort of thing is great for a guy like me who comes onto dweb to kill each evening while my girlfriend/fiance works until 2am. It's like my own little private soap opera. As you can tell by my post count, I don't post often because I'm here to learn more about my Disco not spout off advice when I don't generally know what I'm talking about. About the only time you'll see me answer someone else's question is when it's been hanging there for about a day without any response and I have experience with the situation. A few others on this site should try it. Actually, that's probably my biggest complaint with dweb, (not that there's a portion that I don't have access to, but) the number of people who don't have a clue themselves but insist on telling others what they should do with their Rovers.

Look, if the guys want to try something new that will make dweb better, we should all be happy and patient and let things run there course. But hey, what do I know... according to some on here, I'd still be considered a newbie...

Sucked into a flame war Roland ? Now I want everyone to take note of this , Roland is about to be banned... Why you ask ? Well Roland starts a thread and is shown in about 19 different damn ways how he is pretty much way off . He then does not admit that he is way off . He instead posts and says that he wont be sucked into something that he started.... He is doing that quite simply because he cant refute anything that has been said. Now Roland , I dont wanna see you here anymore. You will get a new ip in time and be able to get out of our ban. If you were smart you would simply not post. The second time you will be banned from the server. Meaning , you will not be able to even get to the site at all...

Disclaimer: the author of the below message is in no way affiliated with the moderators of this site. As well, the views expressed are solely his own and in no way to be taken as representative of some secrete lounge society.

Roland,

Not everyone posts pictures of their truck in their profiles. Some post pictures of hobby interests, some of their dog (I did for a while), others of cool things they came across and just liked. The profile section of this board doesn't prevent you from doing that and allows room for people to be a little creative if they wish. As far as David is concerned, I have no reason to doubt him. When I asked him about it, it was in passing on a totally unrelated topic and at first he didn't even know what I was referring to. When he finally did he explained the origin of the photo to me.

But this only goes to prove the point that just because you see something on display, it may not be as it appears. It was stated quite early on when the Lounge appeared that the moderators were going to be doing some testing so leave it at that and take it for whatever it's worth. If you get an invitation to the lounge, great, consider yourself priviledged. If you don't get an invitation to the lounge, then so be it. If the moderators post the criteria for getting an invitation to the lounge, then you'll know what you have to do (or not do). But to come on here and try to incite some kind of conspiracy theory is stretching it a bit and really proving their point. This site is a great resource and also a good way for people from different parts of the world to meet and share ideas. I just don't see how this lounge should have that big of an impact on one's feeling of being accepted or not.

Just be happy you have a resource like this available to you for free.

This is getting comical. Sorry but with John’s response to Roland being banned reminds me of “History of the World; Part I”

The scene is the streets of Rome and a Roman Authority is asking the citizen crowed what the appropriate punishment for an offence would be.

Roman Authority: “What is the punishment for this offence?"

Citizen: “They shove a living snake up your ass."

Roman Authority: "NO, but very creative."

Stacey
P.S. Over the last few days some people have come around and realized that they may have been wrong. They sucked up their pride and have said so, they have droped this. It is a private site. Live with it, or go away.

Kyle, You raise a good point. Yes, you could press your few keys and kill this site.

On the other side, this site has provided a massive database on the Land Rover Discovery, and I don't think there is another site out there that provides this information to the average user. There is literally nothing out there that no one knows nothing about. This can be very helpful to people who are hopelessly lost with the Land Rover (many people are).

As a reply to the original post, I was not "invited" to the D-Web lounge. I was also not "invited" to the University of Denver, North Carolina State University, and Vanderbilt University. In fact, I was flat out rejected and was told not to ever try again. Instead of cry about it, I just gave them the finger and moved on. I really don't care after about the first 20 seconds.

Dude, just move on.

Max T.
We probably should have a group vote to kill this thread. I'll vote first. Yes, kill it (probably just lock it).

Well, yet again we have some despicable people who deem in necessary to bitch and complain about not getting into the ‘Lounge’ and so on. As said by me and others on this BB, this is a privately owned site run by people who have regular jobs and do this as a hobby and service to everyone on this board; they may do what they wish and we are auspicious to have access to such and wealth of information.

I have had a differing view point with others in the past, John :-)…and I was kinda pissed about those topics BUT, I have to say that this enrages me more than any of the others and I feel like people like Roland and others, you know who you are, are petty. Who the fuck cares about what the owners do with THERE site!! It has become clear to those people who read other posts (Older People, Dweb Lounge) what is going on here.

Morons and idiots pick and choose what to read and then go so far as to post a new thread complaining about what has already been covered by others like they know what they are talking about. I can’t choose a word to describe how dense I think you are. This is exactly the problem we are trying to fix. Roland was a Senior Member and is obviously so self-absorbed that he failed to realize that fact; he should have known better!

This can be a better place when people start to relize that they are simply members of this site, not the administration. There are rules to be followed and if you can't behave and follow rules, you can't come and play!

I think Blue thought that he was checking the dip-direction of that rock, but was drunk enough to not notice that it's just surfical detritus that is no longer in its original orientation of deposition or structural placement.

For anyone readng this, this statement is purely asinine. If one were to read the "User List" and check the status, I would doubt all of the Dweb Lounge mebers are also on DOR. This tells me that the trio selected Lounge members based on other criteria.

Roland, just because you were not admitted into DOR is no reason for you to bash anyone. Dweb and Egroups are two different animals. I asked Kyle over a year ago to let me on DOR. He did not. Big fucking deal. This is one of those items that falls under: "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back it is yours. If it does not come back then it never wants to see your sorry ass again."

At that moment of pure clarity is when you decide to let it go.

I must admit...I'm thinking this Lounge 'controversy' has certainly gotten to some people's brains. I mean COME ONE....are these people staying inside too much? Perhaps they got a little too much sun on their July 4th weekend excursions?! I am amused....soooo amused.

thanks man.. keep your eyes peeled for it down your way as well. Im going to be in the socal/az/utah area for a while.. but most likely not into phoenix as i spent a few months down there after college. im thinking most of the time in az will be in the north rim area. have you been up there?? is it as desolate as we on the east coast are led to believe?

elaborate on "north rim area" - north rim Grand Canyon, as in Kaibab Plateau area, or Mogollon Rim/Mogollon Plateau area? Both are incredible...and compared to the east coast, it's the moon.

Let me know when you're in northern AZ - always looking for an excuse to get lost

With the congestion up here.. phoenix is like the moon :-) ill defintely let you know when im out there. its always more fun getting lost with company.

Gil,

Funny thing about the tip over trail. It is not a difficult one and it is one I have done before. I fell over on the first obsticle and I made a slew of mistakes. Everyone else got through with no problem.

Gil,

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is incredibly beautiful, and much less crowded than the south rim. Worth the extra effort to get there. If you go, try the drive out to Point Sublime: a 25 mile long dirt road through the forest to a remote point overlooking the canyon. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to drive to Toroweap, but I've heard its also worth the effort. Also, if you have time, drive over to Canyon de Chelly to see some of the most dramatic of the ancient Indian cliff dwellings.

If you're doing North Rim, you HAVE to camp at least one night at Point Sublime.

You have to get a $10 permit from the visitor center, but it's definitely worth it. It's one of the few designated campsites within the National Park where you can set up a primitive camp.

Usually there is NOBODY there because it is a ~15 mile drive from the North Rim Lodge and it is recommended as a 4WD-only trail (but it's not difficult at all), so it keeps the riff-raff out.

I much prefer the North Rim to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Just last month I did a 4 night trip that included Sedona and the North Rim.

http://www.expeditionexchange.com/grandcanyon/arizonavacation187.jpg

This is a favorite shot of mine. I'm sitting about 3 feet from the edge of the canyon. There are no fences, no barriers, just you and the Canyon. It was an breathtaking view. Totally quiet and peaceful. There were these little swallow-like birds that were darting around above us; you could hear the sound of the air passing through their feathers it was that quiet.

I'm headed back here this weekend:
http://www.discoweb.org/lostinaz/15gc.jpg

That's South Rim action - I agree that North Rim is better, but South Rim is just a quick drive for me from Phx. There are lonely places on the South Rim, just have to know where to find them...

Point Sublime was purely awe-inspiring. There are only a few places I've been where I've been rendered speechless. This was one of them.

Words and pictures don't do it justice. You need all of your senses present and intact to appreciate Point Sublime.

If you're going to the North Rim, make sure you camp there. You will then know why I am raving about the spot.

It was without a doubt the highlight of my week in Arizona.

Torroweap is spectacular and a very easy trail in. The North Rim beats the South in just about every way. My only advice is to treat the local ranchers and land owners you might encounter in UT and AZ as best you can. The north rim isn't the disneyland that the south rim is and that's what makes it special. Remember to respect the people who live there year round as well as the place itself. It's kind of easy to look at poor ranchers and mormons and make presumptions.

If you mountain bike at all, bring your ride. There is great slick rock to cruise or do a little trials if it's too hot for a long ride.

good luck and happy trails.

Campsite #1 at Toroweap. Look under my pics in the gallery for more. The 61 mile road out to the camp site is a easy trail in. 2 Freelanders did it with no problems in March.
I agree bring your bike if you can.,
