Just purcahsed a 00 Disco II with ACE from a discoweb.org member and had a question on ACE. The car makes a strange noise when started, this noise stays till the car reaches about 30 mph and then goes away. I got it checked at a local shop and the mechanic said that Disco's with ACE make this noise. Is there any remedy for this ? The car is still under warranty should I have it looked at a dealer or Disco's with ACE always make this noise. Any help would be appreciated. |

I don't recall my ACE making any noise from start. If it's under warranty have it checked out. You might hear a "clunk" sound as the ACE engages but this only happens while under way at about 25-30 mph. I find the remedy for most Rover type noise is to turn up the radio ;) |

i was told by the dealership that ace tends to be noisy, so "be prepared" to hear it. frankly, i heve never really noticed that much noise. however, your description of a "strange noise" does not do much for my ability to say yes or no regarding if the noise if ok or not. mine has a slight "wrrrrrr" noise that i am associating with the pump. there is a cyclical vibrating noise it has always made that i think is an ace noice (because it does not matter if the a/c is on or not, so it is not the compressor) that lasts a few seconds every 45 or so seconds. but, as al says...if it is under warranty, have it checked. and if they say it is ok, i would have it checked again a few months later. if you think there is a problem and they say there is no problem, at least you will have notes on your service record of trying to get it fixed if it does break after the warranty expires. and if all else fails, turn the radio up. |

Thanks, I think it sounds more like the slight "wrrrrrr" mentioned by Michael. It might be something I need to get use to but I will have it checked at the dealer. Thanks Raj |

Raj, I just purchased a DII with ACE. Noticed a consistently loud noise when driving. Loud enough that people on the sidewalk sometimes turned to look, but deafening. Had the seller take it to a LR dealer for a check up prior to purchase. Turned out the ACE Pump was out. Replaced within 48 hrs. (after parts sent), purchased within 72 hrs. No problems sinse. I now have the soft whirr I'd expect. I actually don't even notice the noise while driving. Just when I first get in. If your DII is still under warranty get it checked out. While there have any scheduled maintanance performed. If asked they'll also give it a quick once over. If under warranty the dealership loves to find work for themselves. You don't have to pay and they make some bucks off the home company. Jason |

Raj, The ACE equipped vehicles absolutely make noise. A 1999 or 2000 will be the biggest offenders. By 2001 they changed the rail systems to create less vibration. There are some dealer fixes. While there is most likely nothing wrong, I do agree that you should take it to the dealer. |

Jason and Alyssa, I took the Rover to the dealer in Bedford,NH. The ACE pump was out and is being replaced. The folks at the dealership were great, performed free service and above all helped me transfer the 100,000 mile warranty by contacting LRNA.
