I just had my a/c system recharged. However whenever I run my a/c and I am not going over say 50mph the engine begins to overheat. My A/C fan is coming on but it still overheats.

Could be several things.. start by eliminating the simplest & least costly... ensure coolant level is good, thermostate is ok (easy to change out), is the viscous fan working? If these don't fix your problem, you might have water pump problems and the most costly is the radiator is fouled and needs to be cleaned & possibly replaced.

Are you sure you put the themostate in the right direction? pretty easy to put in backwards. Have you replaced the coolant lines & flushed the radiator recently? (no matter what, its a good preventative maintenance thing...)

Gone muddin recently? I just learned a few days ago that if mud or muck gets between the radiator and fan, under the shroud, you will get an elevated engine temp when A/C is on. Take off shroud over the radiator and fan and clean out with water.

Might help.

if you havn't got a lot of muck between your radiator and the a/c condenser you are proberly in need of a radiator replacement.
