I posted on Friday a question about a 99 D1 with 79K that was idling high. Over the course of the weekend it got worse.

Through advice here and in the archives, I ended up pulling the multi-plug off of the IAC. This managed to drop the idle from 2250 down to about 1250.

I spoke with Nathan over at Discount Rovers about getting a new one and he related that in most cases, it just needed to be cleaned very well. I pulled the stepper out, cleaned the chamber of built up carbon and cleaned the stepper itself.

When I put it back in and plugged it back up, the idle went back to misbehaving.

Does a fully functional stepper move in and out with relative ease (using my hand to move the plunger in and out)? Even after cleaning very well, it didn't seem to move without a little bit of umph. Did I not clean the inside very well? Is this indicative of a stepper gone bad?

If this is all normal, is there something else I need to do such as resetting the ECU? I have read in the archives that this is something best left to someone with Testbook. I was curious as to see if there was something I could do such as disconnecting the battery for a bit and then drive around for 15 minutes to get the ECU to settle itself down or if I am just needing to take out the IAC again.

Any help or guidance is always appreciated.
