Ok, I've been using the search button for pretty much 3 weeks, but I haven't been able to find the answer to a couple of questions that I have regarding the RR LWB. I'm planning on getting a 94 in hopefully the next 6 months, so I was wondering, as far as rust is concerned, what are the areas that are usually affected in the Rover? I've read some of the threads here and there are some were other members mention rust on the tail gate, so I am going to guess that would be one place to look at, but where else? or what are the places where the weather stripping is bound to go to teh crapper in a hurry? I know that the weather stripping on the top quarter windows in the Disco kinda sucks (the one in my parent's Disco has a leak already), but what about in the RR? Or other little things in general? I read somewhere that the rear windows might not work, but that it could be the soldering in the window ECU, so that seems simple enough, and not such a big concern. And finally, my second big question is: on an almost 10 year old truck, should I be more trustfull of the low milage ones, or the high milage ones? Because I've been looking through Autotrader.com, and there are a lot of 1994 LWBs and some that seem in great condition at the same prices, but the only difference being that one has 60k miles, and the other has 130k, so could it be that the one that has 60k miles only has 60k miles cuz it spent most of its time at the local dealer, or because it was babied? Any info that y'all can give me would be great. thank you. p.s. great site y'all have here... |

A couple other places to look for rust are the front floor boards and around the rear seat belt mountings. Be sure to pull up all the levels of carpet and rubber over the floor boards to examine them. I wouldn't worry too much about higher mileage if the price is right. Just make sure that the vehicle has been properly maintained and that the owner has proof to back it up. Be sure to check to see if all the electronics function properly (such as power locks, windows, mirrors, etc.) If not, they could possibly be easily fixable and make for good bargaining points. Don't be afraid to crawl under it and take a good look at everything. Small oil and power steering leaks are quite common, but be very careful if anything looks excessive. I'd highly recommend having someone with knowledge of Rovers check it out for you prior to purchasing it. It's definitely worth paying someone a little to check it out. Could save you some serious headaches. Best of luck. |

rust is a big issue with RRs as the steel substructure that the fenders, etc. are bolted to were not painted only primed. go here to see what can happen - http://www.eastcoastrover.com/Thompson2.html buy one from where there is no salt either in the air or on the roads. as far as the other stuff, the electrical items can and will go bad so make sure everything works at least when you first get it. there are some real dogs with fleas out there for sale. there are also some very good opportunities as older RRs have really lost their value. even the Series LRs are commanding a higher price in some cases. also check out http://www.rangerovers.net for some very good RR information. good luck.
